Facing Monsters digs deep into the psyche of West Australian surfer Kerby Brown, a man whose connection with the ocean runs as deep as his love for his family. Far more than just a surfing story, it's an unapologetic musing into the essence of Kerby and his family as we join them on his quest to ride a ferocious slab wave in the deep Southern Ocean that no one on the planet has surfed before.

Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Candid an emotionally engrossing with exhilarating wave footage. Not as powerful nor entertaining as The Endless Summer, though. Nov 21, 2022 Full Review Joel Fisher Battle Royale With Cheese Facing Monsters may not have a particularly compelling story, but the feeling of the ocean may wash over the audience as they start to feel what Kerby feels. Something that is like nothing else. Nov 19, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix The documentary Facing Monsters adeptly balances the story of Australian surfer Kerby Brown with captivating footage of his talent and candid confessions about his private life. The movie's title refers to monster surf waves and Brown’s personal demons. Nov 6, 2022 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) It's not narrative-rich. It's actually quite a simple tale. Boy's first and enduring love is the ocean which he leaves for a brief time but is drawn back, health and safety be damned. Mr. Hollywood A standard documentary but a decent one at that. With this subject its all about the scenery and boy is the scenery amazing. The subject is good too and you come away understanding why he needs his fix. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/28/22 Full Review Jean B Just insane! Beautiful photography! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/22 Full Review Geoff H Simple explanations to life, the ocean, surfing and the challenges of all. Great movie with incredible wave footage. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/23 Full Review Rated F This is actually depressing watching a man constantly choose this dangerous lifestyle over his family. He has a death wish and an addiction to be near death and won't stop until it stops him. He chose one addiction for another bad one. It's like watching the show interdiction. What's worse is that his family is also too scared to tell him to stop. I get it you have a love for surfing the most dangerous waves but at the cost of your life and your family's expense, let it go Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review brendan h Absolutely brilliant feature documentary that takes the audience deep into the world of extreme big wave surfing. Cinematic visuals and abstract at times, although a real character portrait is at the heart of this film. The story is weaved brilliantly as well as the editing. Definitely watch this! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Hamish S Gritty and real. If you like the ocean or adventure then this is for you. Leaves you wondering...
