A woman of style, wealth and no small amount of arrogance, Carol Morgan (Tallulah Bankhead) callously turns away handsome business executive Bill Wade (Robert Montgomery) because he is only moderately rich. However, after the Great Depression hits, even Carol's fortunes fall, so she becomes involved with a millionaire (Hugh Herbert) despite his obnoxious behavior. Before long, though, Carol opts to be with Bill -- but will their love survive as their luck continues to decline?
