Audience Member It was like Ken Russell made a Troma film! I enjoyed it! The Annabelle Lee song is awesome! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member An incomprehensible, abysmal mess. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review eric b "Indulgent" and "directed by Ken Russell" are practically synonymous, but this warped Edgar Allan Poe tribute is ridiculous even by Russell standards. Essentially, this poor excuse for a movie feels like Russell just grabbed a video camera (yes, it was shot on video) and spent a couple of weeks shooting some younger friends hamming it up around the grounds of his estate. Mugging faces in extreme closeup are everywhere, and Russell himself plays a horny, lab-coated psychologist with a silly German accent. Not exactly a model of subtlety. Lead actor James Johnston is also a musician (grossly derivative of Nick Cave), and multiple scenes are simply detachable music videos dropped into the story. And the dramatic "fall" of the climax? It's a deflating bounce house shaped like a castle. No lie. This is as bad a film as you'll ever see from a major director. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Ken Russell, what the hell were you thinking? I dig Ken's films, but this mess was like a poorly funded drug binge gone wrong. If you like blow up dolls fucking Godzilla toys, every other prop being phallic, the rantings of a drunken Ken Russell with an on again off again German accent, a man in a gorilla suit and all of this is supposed to be interpretations of Edgar Allen Poe...perhaps I've already said too much. Better luck next time, Mr. Russell. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Starts off as one of the best films ever made - a nurse blowing a banana, someone sucking on an eyeball, then it decends into madness as people run around Ken Russell's garden singing. A sublime work of wonder... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member only because Greg and I share a signed copy by the great Ken Russell himself!!!
