In an exploitative and cruel world, this shambling, quiet romance captures both the void of loneliness and the warmth of human touch. Go to Full Review

By design, Fallen Leaves isn’t so much a romance as a series of gestures towards the idea of one. You can’t tell this kind of story any more, is the implication, but wouldn’t it be nice if you could? Go to Full Review

This movie does follow that arc in its own way. It feels like there’s a big beating heart awaiting its moment. Go to Full Review

In this delicate interplay of poignant storytelling, Fallen Leaves gently reminds us that, even within the seemingly unfeeling expanse of existence, pockets of goodness persist. Go to Full Review

Gene 01/06/2024 Very good dram-com with romantic touch See more Sari 12/04/2023 This movie was amazing. It has a short run time which is refreshing out alongside the other releases that consistently go above two hours. My whole theater was laughing at the dry pan humor and the out of time feel really made the movie very tense. It was a very enjoyable experience that will make you leave with a smile. See more sophia z 11/26/2023 This is not an action film. It is a beautifully rendered look at the mundane life of two characters we desperately hope will find each other. And very subtly we see their characters change because, well, there now are reasons to change. They embrace life very differently than before because of each other. Beautiful film. See more Christopher 11/18/2023 Really enjoyable. A story about two people each living out their own rather bleak existence - but find hope and companionship with one another. The film is from Finland, so it has rather dark. sardonic humor and minimalist qualities. However, the actors are compelling to watch and the story is engaging. See more Paul A Oct 9 A slow moving film with a lovely story. Not the modern thrashing love story but far more real world. Two lonely people moving slowly closer together. See more O g Sep 8 Loved this intriguing film. There's a curious sense from the cinematography, style and cultural references of this being set in the 1970s. But for a few contemporary references, such as to the Russian-Ukraine war, you wouldn't know it's set in the 2020s. Gives a quirky and uncertain feel. The story is good and well-paced. I enjoyed the bleak comedy of it. There are a lot of themes here: exploitation of modern capitalism, hope and fear of future, loss of confidence in values, modern relationships to name a few. In the deadpan expressions of the characters (sometimes verging on catatonia), the stilted dialogue and bleak cityscapes evocative of atomisation I detected more than a note of Akerman. Would thoroughly recommend Fallen Leaves. See more Read all reviews
