Critics Consensus

The Family Man's earnest attempt to remind audiences that it's a wonderful life too often steers into schmaltz, although Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni's romantic rapport adds a dash of sincere sweetness.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Pleasant movie despite some predictability. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Time Out It's rare that an American movie lets slip such a snobbish distaste for the humdrum lives of its blue-collar audience base, but of course it doesn't last. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Marrit Ingman Austin Chronicle A holiday film Joe Lieberman could love, unembarrassed by its wholesome, sugary pro-family message. Rated: 2/5 Mar 10, 2003 Full Review Mae Abdulbaki Screen Rant The Family Man's premise is simple yet heartfelt and beautiful, with an aching sense of solitude and profundity permeating the film. Rated: 9/10 Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times The Family Man proves it is indeed entirely possible to make a crowd-pleasing, highly commercial romantic movie with teeth which respects the audiences intelligence and doesn't spoon-feed them the same old predictable, recycled mish-mash. Shannon B it's a great feel good movie. Most critics suck, in my humble opinion. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Matt W This has become one of my go to Christmas movies. It's a very tight story, hums along, no slow parts, great cast, direction. I love the message of the movie even though I chose the career path over the family life, I still can appreciate it. One of my favourite Nic Cage movies and Tea Leoni is great. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Audience Member The movie sucks it is very boring 🥱 the guy had a very good life and that is how the movie should end he was filthy rich, and she ended with him being filthy rich Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Harry S This show struck a chord with me--maybe several chords. Everyone faces a choice in their life: which path do i choose? Frequently they dont choose the one their mate prefers, and it follows them both throughout their married life. That makes the plot of The Family Man super-relatable, but I also loved: the kids, Tea Leoni, Don Cheadle and the convincing glimpse into the life of a Wall Street financier. It's a story well told, even if it is an echo of It's A Wonderful Life. We watch it every Christmas. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Eye C A Christmas Classic that left me with a bittersweet ending, but Tea Leoni is an angel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/15/24 Full Review Koba A A lovely take on it's a wonderful life..... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
