Jack's lavish, fast-paced lifestyle changes one Christmas night when he stumbles into a grocery store holdup and disarms the gunman. The next morning he wakes up in bed lying next to Kate, his college sweetheart he left in order to pursue his career, and to the horrifying discovery that his former life no longer exists. "The Family Man" is a classic holiday film that probably wouldn’t have worked if released in 2025. At first, I was quite hooked and felt that it was going to be a plausible story about a man who got fed up with his career-driven life and decided to pursue other goals and dreams. However, I soon realized that the story was quite hackneyed and far-fetched. The creative decision to have the main character wake up to a completely different life might have worked but instead it feels predictable. Not only does Jack start to cherish family values by the end, he also manages to get his "wife" back. I just don’t buy it. Nevertheless, there were certainly some poignant scenes, especially the ones where "his" eldest daughter concluded that Jack wasn’t her actual dad, those were very touching. Overall, it’s a feel-good film to unwind and not to think too much during the holidays.

some of the dialogues are over the top yet the plot is touching and poignant. for me there was a meager chance of a happy ending the whole film. the last speech by Jack unfortunately fell flat. I also hated the spoon-fed message of family being the only thing that makes a person truly happy. still it’s worth watching and deserves all the glowing reviews.

A thoughtful film about how small choices can shape an entire life. I first saw this as a teenager, but revisiting it in my mid-30s made it feel far more relatable and quietly affecting. It’s not a perfect film, and it can be a little uneven, but its refusal to neatly wrap everything up is part of what makes it feel honest. Less a feel-good fantasy than a gentle, lingering "what if."
