Ronald F A beautifully filmed movie. A romantic, humorous, sad, and touching story that should have you in tears at various as it unfolds. Terrific performances by Maurice Chevalier and Charles Boyer and outstanding performances by Horst Buchholz and Leslie Caron, as well as the supporting cast. It is one of favorites for so many reasons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Good, but I enjoyed Marius more. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked the city of Marseille and story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member ...& the soapy continues. Ben Kenigsberg New York Times Mr. Auteuil's passion project is sincere but not successful, honorable but not alive. Jul 17, 2014 Full Review Danny King Village Voice Fanny has a stagy sensibility, but Auteuil displays flashes of genuine, old-school craft. Jul 15, 2014 Full Review Clayton Dillard Slant Magazine The characters, the sets, and the scenes all exist to propagate the notion that pleasure derives from repetition and remediation. Rated: 1/4 Jul 14, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com If there's a way to render Pagnol successfully, at least in a way that would make another adaptation of this work necessary, Auteuil's mixed bag of rigid emotions and flat visualizations isn't the ideal framework. Rated: 1/5 Aug 30, 2019 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International "Classic" is a word all too casually bandied about, but for Daniel Auteuil's screen adaptation of this beloved French trilogy it is completely apropos. Jul 17, 2014 Full Review Mike D'Angelo The Dissolve One great performance... doesn't justify Auteuil's decision to remake a series of films that are an inextricable part of their own era.
