Jaime N. Christley Slant Magazine Writer-director Chris Brown makes a play for the "And You Thought Your Family Was Crazy" sweepstakes with Fanny, Annie & Danny. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 9, 2011 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times "Fanny, Annie & Danny" may be an unpleasant story about unpleasant characters, but the acting is fabulous. Rated: 3/5 Dec 8, 2011 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety The more difficult characters here (all female) and resulting character dynamics are so consistently shrill that the pic feels a bit too one-dimensional and cruel to leave the small-tragedy aftertaste it could have. Dec 6, 2011 Full Review Mark Bell Film Threat I left the film feeling horrible for or about the characters onscreen, but it doesn't mean this is a bad movie; it's a really great movie, just not a feel-good movie. Rated: 4/5 Nov 12, 2012 Full Review Andrew L. Urban Urban Cinefile A superbly orchestrated screenplay, astonishing performances and riveting direction from San Francisco filmmaker Chris Brown deliver a family drama with darkly humorous riffs Oct 28, 2012 Full Review Christian Toto Big Hollywood Fanny, Annie & Danny will make you run up and hug your sketchiest uncle this holiday season. Family dysfunction at its finest. Rated: 3/4 Oct 26, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Absolutely loved this. It's Rodd and my new holiday favorite. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member You've heard of families who put the "fun" in "dysfunctional." That's not this family. These people are downright hateful. There's a bitter, controlling mother (one of the most memorable performances I've seen this year!) who has a clear favorite among her three children and doesn't hesitate to let everyone know it. Her favorite is her son, Danny, who has no interest in his doting mother -- since he's too busy looking out for himself. One daughter, Annie, has built up a lifetime of resentment because she's had to look out for her developmentally disabled older sister, Fanny. There's a father around, too, but he's just trying his best to stay out of everyone's way. When this fragile, wounded clan gets together for Christmas, there are sure to be awkward moments, tears and yelling, guilt trips, hurt feelings and plenty of drama. It's cynical, darkly comical, weird, angst-filled, quirky and a complete original. A wondrous discovery. See it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Writer-director Chris Brown obviously loathes Christmas, and that's just fine with us, especially as that hostility has resulted in such a dark and funny film.
