Nell Minow Common Sense Media Delightful, but may scare more sensitive kids. Rated: 5/5 Dec 24, 2010 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader The rest of these animated sequences depend on gimmickry, cuteness, or facile ideology. Nov 16, 2009 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Fantasia/2000 will no doubt become a Disney perennial, but that does not by definition make it a classic. Rated: 3/5 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn Fantasia 2000 is a story of big swings and common misses leading to a disappointing return for the series. Dec 15, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins While this update is still a masterful achievement of sound in animation, it doesn't quite match the power of the first feature. Rated: 8/10 Sep 29, 2020 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal If "Fantasia" represents the "2001: A Space Odyssey" of Disney animation, consider "Fantasia 2000" its "2010" - a workmanlike sequel that still has stunning moments but hardly approaches its forefather. Elijah R While generally less impactful or interesting than the original (the Rhapsody in Blue segment withstanding), Fantasia 2000 does a good job of modernizing and expanding Fantasia. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Georgan G Loved the music and animation. Just not as engrossing as the original. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Daniel F I've never been a fan of these sort of movies with stories being told in the form of Music. the music involved in this film is not as memorable as the original and just feels like a modern copy of that film. 4.0/10 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/24/23 Full Review Cody W With incredible music that is absolutely beautiful and wonderful colors that are brighter than ever, FANTASIA 2000 honors the spirit of the original concert movie that came before it and gives two of Disney's most iconic characters, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, outstanding performances of their own. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/23/23 Full Review Jace E Call me uncultured, but I would rather watch most any other Disney movie over this. I get that it's a celebration of what the Walt Disney company has been able to accomplish over 60+ years, but it's still so boring. I love "World of Color" and what can be done with music playing behind beautiful animation, but this just doesn't do it for me. Hopefully they don't come out with another Fantasia any time soon. Honestly, I would love to see a film that features Mickey Mouse prominently rather than just a small segment in these movies. Best Character: Mickey Best Scene: Rhapsody in Blue (clearly) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/08/23 Full Review Vitoria F The first notable difference, in relation to the first film, is the transformation of music into image using much more concrete figures (the first one worked more with the abstract), a sign of the change in the way of conceiving art throughout the second half of the 20th century. Despite being shorter than its predecessor, Fantasia 2000 raises the level of emotion by betting on touching stories, representing the sadness and fears of ordinary people in many segments. Like the first film, it used the most innovative animation technology at the time: mixing hand drawings and computer graphics. I thought it was a bit of a cheat that they reused the entire Sorcerer's Apprentice segment, missed the chance to do a sequel. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
