Audience Member The Walt Disney classic was first released in 1940 and became a timeless staple of the beloved studio’s legacy. It was a bold strategy to have an entire film with no particular story along with no dialogue but instead have a series of different musical segments follow one after another. Many of them had stuff around dinosaurs, Greek mythology, even animals performing ballet. It was well received but crashed at the box office. It would be a long time before another entry would see the light of day. 60 years later another Fantasia installment was released. After so long there was new potential to show new animation and performing more classic music compositions for old fans and newcomers alike. That original movie was a masterpiece in its own right but this one pushes the hand drawn animation and 3D visuals to new heights. There’s dozens of wonderfully composed segments. Everything from Beethoven’s Symphony featuring butterflies to humpback whales to Noah’s Ark to dancing flamingos to 1920s jazz blues. The film in my opinion is a much more enjoyable one than its predecessor. It’s shorter in length but moves much quicker with a lot more flair. The animators have no limitations too as each segment is allowed to breathe on its own. I love how they brought back Sorcerer's Apprentice. But the Firebird Suite is my absolute favorite! It mixes classic styles of animation along with new ones to make for one hell of a finale. The Steadfast Tin Soldier: the ballerina reminded me so much of Natalie Portman it’s hard not to think about. The celebrity cameos didn’t bother me in the slightest. I imagine it’ll annoy others but they bring a lot of charm to the proceedings this time. This second installment is a labor of love showing why music and animation go hand in hand while also telling a story without any verbal communication. This was totally worth the wait and it still holds up even 25 years later! Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/25 Full Review Mike P Superb sequel to Fantasia stands toe to toe with the original masterpiece in almost every way...I particularly loved Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" starring Donald Duck; it's very funny and amazing...Stavinsky's "Firebird Suite" featurette is also quite amazing; appropriately playing out it's epic melody on a mythological stage...And the colors are so plush and vibrant; pulling from a larger palate than what Disney usually uses...It looks more like Miyazaki than Disney, to be honest. Overall it's very impressive; it's exactly as good as it should be; rightfully earning its place in the classic Disney canon.
