Critics Consensus

Dull and downbeat, this Fantastic Four proves a woefully misguided attempt to translate a classic comic series without the humor, joy, or colorful thrills that made it great.

Kristy Puchko CBR "Fantastic Four" is a profound mess. It's not fun. It's not exciting. It's far from action-packed. And it's most certainly not fantastic. May 18, 2018 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire A poorly constructed, ineptly executed, flatfooted piece of Branded Product that plays as though it were written by a piece of software fed every superhero movie script to date and instructed to synthesize them. May 27, 2016 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times A lightweight and basically unnecessary attempt to once again bring some cinematic life to one of the lesser teams in the Marvel Universe. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 13, 2015 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Trust me when I say this – reading about the movie is a lot more fun than watching it. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review All build-up and no pay-off, Fantastic Four attempts to reboot the popular Marvel superhero team with new actors, a fresh young director, and a studio whose rocky track record with Marvel properties doesn't promote confidence. Brandon S 4 stars... that's fant4stic Wait... say that again? Guys I've got it It's peak Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review JJ S What is wrong with this Its a masterpiece compared to the original 2 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Andrew T I think the only superhero movie I've seen that's worse than this is Man of Steel. But then again, if forced to pick one to rewatch, I'd probably pick that one. Sure the previous F4s were dumb, but at least they were mildly fun. Actually, compared to this, they're the most fun I could ever hope to have in my life. This movie is poorly acted, lifeless, boring, self-serious, visually dark, ugly, dull, monotonous, one-noted, pathetic, pathetic, and absolutely fantastically pathetic. It takes 40 minutes for them to turn into mutants. And they don't even team up until the last 10 minutes or so. It's shocking how bad this is. And it's not even remotely comically bad, because there's nothing to laugh at. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review Vandelay R In light of the new Fantastic Four movie coming out, I thought I'd finally check out this movie since I like to check out movies that people tell me not to see because it's so bad, so I figured why not? SPOILER ALERT if you even give a sh*t As expected, NOT GREAT. It's just a waste of time, a waste of money, it's a waste of a great cast. Don't even bother with this crap that tries to be like a serious dark gritty movie despite the fact the main villain is called Dr. Doom. It's like it's embarrassed to even be a Fantastic four movie, they don't even call themselves that at all, they almost do at the end but then it ends right there. At least the previous two movies had some sort of effort put into it and didn't take themselves too seriously since let's be honest the Fantastic Four is kind of a silly concept (no offense to the fans) this just doesn't have any of that. Like there's so many times where instead of watching "our heroes" do any crime fighting or doing cool things, you just watch random people talking blandly while all that cool stuff happens on a tv in the background, who the hell would want to watch that?? Just don't even bother with this one. The cast is great and I don't blame any one of them for this Fantastic failure, they deserved better than this and so did the fans. Marvel thankfully got the movie rights for this property from Fox and I hope for the love of f**k that they just go all out there and make at the very least a tolerable movie. The trailer for the new movie looks pretty damn good so far so let's hope that it lives up to our expectations. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/25 Full Review Movie M Makes Madame Web look like Avengers Endgame. Truly the worst comic book movie I have ever seen.
