What to Know

Critics Consensus

While an improvement on its predecessor, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is nevertheless a juvenile, simplistic picture that has little benefit beyond its special effects.

Dana Stevens Slate An off-brand superhero movie, the cinematic equivalent of one of those generic breakfast cereals with a badly drawn squirrel for a mascot. Sep 22, 2007 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald The film's effects people perform many miracles, from draining the River Thames to ensuring that the Thing produces a convincing smile. But one thing they can't do is to make the unfailingly wholesome Mr Fantastic and friends worth worrying about. Audience Member This movie was one of the few holes I had in the Marvel total universe. The first one was just OK and I assumed this one would be worse based on the reception it received so I never bothered. The Fantastic Four was my favorite comic as a kid so I did not want to tarnish it any more. Umm…this movie is awesome. The interaction between the characters works really well and true to the source material. It is funny, fun, and there is real heart. It’s very hard to introduce a character like the Silver Surfer and they do it well. My only real issue is I thought the Dr. Doom character was forced in. I left this movie very sad that there were only two movies with this group of actors. Thank you for not mailing it in for this sequel, I highly recommend Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Alexander S The cast’s energy and dynamic are what’s making this franchise successful, but Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer unfortunately misses the mark in building a compelling plot, especially when introducing new major characters that could elevate the series to new heights, like a potential showdown with Galactus. Regrettably, the film chooses to remain in its campy tone, causing the series to lose its relevance. Grading: C- Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review Laze T Better then the last, sliver surfer is pure aura and the cast again is peak, loved it has it flaws again but its a good time leave it ALONE!!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/25 Full Review Rick C The first Fantastic Four is pretty entertaining, but the novelty wears off by the second movie and it becomes a lot easier to critique the narrative's weaknesses. I have to remind myself that most of these comic book stories are pretty old. The first issue of Fantastic Four released in 1961 for goodness' sake. Science fiction has matured a lot since then, and some ideas that may have seemed reasonable in the 50s and 60s border on goofy now. Maybe this movie is just a poor adaptation of the source material, but what's with the silver alien man riding a surfboard and how is he able to communicate in English? As much as I love Ioan Gruffudd's, Jessica Alba's, Chris Evans', and Michael Chiklis' portrayal of the main protagonists themselves, their villains in these movies have pretty weak characterization. Julian McMahon's Doctor Doom is kinda lame, and Galactus is just a big space cloud. The only "silver" lining is that this duology is still better than that awful 2015 reboot. Jessica Alba > Kate Mara. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/25 Full Review tiago m Não é horrível, entretanto é genérico e a história vai para um caminho bem meia boca. O Tocha Humana é o melhor, mas no geral é médio pra baixo, apesar de alguns momentos divertidos. E o Doutor Destino é muito genérico, se acha o mauzão mas morre que nem lixo. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Dionisis T A great super hero movie, why not? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
