What to Know

Critics Consensus

While an improvement on its predecessor, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is nevertheless a juvenile, simplistic picture that has little benefit beyond its special effects.

Dana Stevens Slate An off-brand superhero movie, the cinematic equivalent of one of those generic breakfast cereals with a badly drawn squirrel for a mascot. Sep 22, 2007 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald The film's effects people perform many miracles, from draining the River Thames to ensuring that the Thing produces a convincing smile. But one thing they can't do is to make the unfailingly wholesome Mr Fantastic and friends worth worrying about. Caleb H A worse movie than the first, with little worth remembering. Once again, Fantastic Four fails to live up to its name. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Lincoln R … better than the first obviously. First Steps was way better, it’s almost funny how far away the level is. Anyways, decent cgi even up to today. Acting was, meh. It was actually pretty funny tho surprisingly. 2nd best F4 movie to me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Ronald R. Good Movie!!! Recommended!!! A++ 🍿🎥🍿 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review tommy J I thought this movie was fun, Jesus Alba is gorgeous but should not have been cast, her hair and fake contacts look silly. Everyone elses casting is great Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Sedale S. This was the first movie I remember having an indifferent opinion with literally everyone else, pundits and friends alike. Watching a movie that I really loved as a kid and then hearing everyone think that it was lame was so rocking for me at the time since I was only 14. I’ve revisited this film once before and even then I still liked this movie. I feel like the cgi for Silver Surfer still holds up, Laurence Fishburne brings such an enigmatic and powerful presence to Norin Radd. Since he’s in the name of the movie I’m glad he got some care! The core four of the cast bring the same charisma and I feel that the differences they bring to the sequel are all natural progressions of their character arcs. The problems really lie within the pacing and the script. And yeah, especially in the 2nd half of the movie, the cgi isn’t good. Oh and no Galactus on screen should be illegal. I don’t have an in depth knowledge on the production of these films like other franchises, but going from a PG-13 movie to a shorter PG movie screams of studio meddling and toy first decision making. I remember being so disappointed when there was no third movie and it got rebooted, I really did enjoy these movies and they deserved better. People claim that all of a sudden fans pretend to have always like these movies, but anything to create more discourse right? Although not as good as the first movie, if that wad a movie you enjoyed, there’s no reason Rise of the Silver Surfer won’t also tug at the same heart strings. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review John F The only bad thing about this movie is the fact that they made Galactus a cloud. But that's not so bad when you realize how bad the CGI would be for him. Speaking of CGI, silver surfer holds up strong to today and even rivals the CGI of a certain female version of him right now.
