Richard W @rdwoolf 2d This 1960s version of the Fantomas films (originally made as silent films in the 1920s) is a lot of fun. They took it out of the mystery/horror genre and moved it into the action comedy genre. And that is perfect for this villain character. Imagine if you took the James Bond storylines and removed the James Bond character to focus solely on the Bond villain. Then you added a little comedy from the Pink Panther series of the bumbling detective. Give it a mid-sixties look and you have FANTOMAS. If you have seen the Italian Diabolik films than you are familiar with Fantomas, since Diabolik was modeled after the creator read one of the Fantomas books (according to one of the extras on the Eureka box set). The German Dr. Mabuse character is also a master villain similar to Fantomas and Diabolik. And to some degree, Fu Man Chu is related as well. I look forward to seeing the two sequels in this trilogy. See more Alain E @AlainE May 29 Very well done crime comedy with impressive chase scenes involving a car with disabled brakes speeding down a mountain road, police motorcyclists, a helicopter chasing a speedboat and finally a submarine that allows the villain to escape, until the next episode. Shots are fired, but noone gets killed. The protagonists are played by the great French comedian Louis deFunes as a police inspector , Jean Marais impersonating both the bad guy as well as the journalist who chases him together with the police and Mylene Demongeot providing some eye candy in tight dresses. Nicely restored color cinematography. On Tubi. See more Amir S Mar 24 A really good movie - I recommend everyone to watch it. See more 08/13/2020 Classic french comedy/crime film that marks the begining of the Fantomas trilogy of the 60's. Creepy and comic, well act and well directed. Dark and gorgeous. I really like the vibe of that film. See more 08/04/2015 A great comedy from the Louis de Funès golden age. The biggest problem is that the movie is too slow.
