Variety Staff Variety A good picture of its kind, but a bad object lesson. Nov 13, 2019 Full Review Michael E. Grost Classic Film and Television The finale of the Fantomas thriller series, it has people trailed all over Belgium, a bizarre scene in a belfry, and a off-the-wall prison escape. Audience Member The conclusion of the serial. Fantomas is in jail, but Juve wants him to stand trial for his numerous crimes in France, so Juve actually stages a daring prison escape to lure Fantomas back to his life of crime in France where he can hopefully be tailed and re-apprehended. We witness the majority of Fantomas' travels after the escape and for the first time we see HOW he takes a man's identity. Fantomas is now passing himself off as a judge, a position which allows him to keep good tabs on his network of thieves and murderers. There is a strange scene in a bell tower with an unbelievable stunt. Fandor must help Juve restore his position with the police force and eventually Juve is triumphant in capturing Fantomas. It is too bad that this final part was not as strong as the earlier parts of the mystery. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member A fitting farewell to Fantomas. Pity about the missing segments. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The ending is just hilarious, I mean the plotting here is rather more comical, not in a bad way but has a slightly more slapstick influenced style. I personally like the greediness of Fantomas here and the way he commands his hoodlums but overall, I don't favour this over the rest but still it is very powerful in its own right.
