Kathy Fennessy Video Librarian Magazine Though Farewell isn't as dark or dramatic as the films Siodmak would make in the 1940s, his facility with actors, action, and intrigue was intact from the start. Rated: 3/5 Jul 19, 2022 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl The cinematography is creative enough in its use of angles and cuts and montages that you may not notice how static the staging is, while Max Knaake’s art direction perfectly captures the shabby gentility of a Weimar boardinghouse. brad h Farewell (otherwise known as Abschied) is a wonderful German film from 1930. The film takes place in a Boarding House where several people are living together. The setting works perfectly for these characters. The screenwriter (Emeric Pressburger) and Art Director (Max Knaake) do a wonderful job of making these characters fully inhabit there space. You really feel like you get to know these people. Director Robert Siodmak does a wonderful job of keeping everything moving at a nice pace. He does a great job of placing you right in the Boarding House, making you feel like you are there and that you know these people. Actress Brigitte Horney is wonderful. You will fall for her and Hella (the character she inhabits). The ending of the film is that more powerful because of the great job she does with the character. You feel for her. You just want to give her a hug and tell her that everything is going to be ok, even if it's not. You care for her that much. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
