Years after being cast out of a tiny coastal village as a bastard, Malinese engineer Zanga (Fily Traore) leaves his adopted life in a modern city and returns to his native tribe. His arrival fans the flames of cultural tension between tribal elders and the younger generation. When Zanga's reunion with his mother, Niele (Rokia Traoré), coincides with the drowning of a young girl, village chief Dorfchef (Sotigui Kouyaté) accuses Zanga of angering the water goddess Faro.

Audience Member Yes, I even see this stuff. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Salif Traoré’s film portrays the strange events that ensue when a prodigal son who has become an engineer returns to his village in Burkina Faso. Filled with memorable imagery but gets a little too wrapped up in the impenetrable minutae of local traditions to maintain interest. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
