Audience Member Brilliantly written script. Fascinating story that is more about love and sacrifice than war. Feels a bit idealistic and propagandistic in places, but also affecting and humanistic as we get to see the best and worst of what peole do to people in war. Excellent how the faces of soldiers returning from teh front tell the story of what has happened to them without needing words Standout naturalistic performance of strength and honour from the lead character. The tale is about a georgian peasant who goes off to find his son and ends up fighting in the Soviet army. Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Exceptional story of fatherly devotion. What a lovable character, both the heroic son and the offbeat father (Giorgi). The vinyard scene with the tankers is classic, as is the scene where Giorgi argues with the hospital staff. Though Soviet era film always seems to have a propaganda value, this writer, along with the rest of the good ones, transcend the statist overseers in almost a rebellious though careful manner. The charcter of the Georgian peasant father is so easy to get attached to. The film dose a good job in portraying the feelings of the peasant farmer which seem strange to everyone else in company.
