Carlos I @carlosFibarra Feb 17 Father of the Bride Part II is a syrupy sequel that leans heavily into sentimentality, and while it’s not quite as good as the first, it remains a charmingly fun watch. Steve Martin returns with his signature high-strung energy as George Banks, who finds himself in a comedic double-whammy when both his daughter and his wife announce they are pregnant at the same time. The plot is undeniably predictable and doubles down on the "fluff" factor, but the chemistry between the returning cast and Martin Short’s eccentric antics as Franck Eggelhoffer make it an endearing comfort movie. It captures that specific brand of 90s warmth that, despite its sugary coating, still feels like a cozy visit with old friends. I suppose they took their time with the script, but it's simply not a sequel to "Father of the Bride." Forget the essence and charisma of the first one. This is the story of a middle-aged man. As a standalone story, it might have been better... However, watching this film with my dad only made me uncomfortable. Any forced laughs? Only one. The house storyline... a wasted plot point. Syrupy supporting characters prop him up, but are so flat and uninteresting. The whole family could get hit by a bus and I wouldn't give a rip. There is exactly one funny line, "Do I know you?!" See more Miguel T @RT13792672 02/27/2025 I have been looking for a while a sequel that has everything a sequel should have: maintaining the uniqueness of the original and adding new elements that harmonize it, keeping it fresh. Making you feel you are at home while you see sonething new. Ladies and gentlemen: Father of the Bride II is the perfect sequel. The shots are very well thought out, everyone well placed. It provokes a few laughs. It reinforces the message of the original: just let go. I was really touched by the last shot because something similar happened to me recently. The synopsis is great. Martin Short is much funnier (and more bearable) in this one. Kieran Culkin is the MVP and Steve Martin fliring is inmediatly iconic. It's a bit boring at times and a bit slow, but it's twice as good as the previous one, and for that alone it deserves more recognition.
