Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Plenty of moody, dream-like sequences punctuate the proceedings, and if only Franco could have maintained a modicum of taste, perhaps he could have made this a more righteous endeavor. david f Schlocky to be sure, this film has a novel twist on the vampire story, lots of nudity, and some bizarrely poetic monologues. I liked the bat hood ornament with flapping wings. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not a fan of Jess Franco's work and I can hardly recall anything of his that I've seen that I didn't find either boring or interesting. Such is the case with The Female Vampire, which is a quasi-horror film about a mute countess roaming the countryside and having sex with her victims in order to suck out their life force, or something. While there is some atmosphere, there is really no story. The movie contains very graphic nudity, as well, especially the NC-17 version. Lina Romay is beautiful and has a gorgeous body, but I kind of wanted more of a story from this. It just seems like an idea dreamed up by a 13 year old kid to me. It's certainly easy on the eyes, but other than that, there's just nothing to it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Supposedly Jess Franco's masterpiece, this is just as boring as most of his other stuff. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member What a load of old rubbish - everything about this is totally dreadful - Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member 38% "He was bitten...in the middle of a orgasim and the vampire sucked his semen and took his life away."-Dr Roberts (Jesus Franco) This vampire doesn't suck on blood. The "ooooowwww" score bugged the crap out of me and the only real interesting shots were of the misty forest. I guess, most, would call this smut, but what else would you expect from Franco? RIP: Lina Romay Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Master of subtlety Jesus Franco opens with a woman wearing nothing but a belt and cape, walking out of the fog (how artistic), and just rolls the sex train on through, never stopping for details like scripting or plotting. Shot with Franco's usual eye for...Oh, who am I kidding? Shot like a high school project by a kid who only took film class to talk to a girl, the movie seems to exist only as a means of shuttling Lina Romay from one oogy simulated sex scene to the next. And Lina Romay is a pretty girl. But at some point I think you have to say, 'put some dang clothes on and read some dialog.' Thank goodness for the extended facial hair grooming scene. I couldn't have lived without that. Franco makes Tinto Brass look like Orson Welles. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
