Audience Member I hate those things A submarine stops off in an exotic location to let their men spend a day relaxing on dry land. One of the men on the ship thinks it would be funny to purchase a bag of snakes to play practical jokes on the submarine. Shortly after leaving the port, the submarine runs aground and is stuck. If it wasn’t bad enough that the men are trapped on the ship, things get worse when the snakes get loose on the sub and begin killing the crew. “The first aid kit is up by the battle deck.” “It won’t help with a broken neck.” Russ Mayberry, director of A Place to Call Home, Rooster, Goldie and the Bears, The Young Runaways, The Rebels, The Jesus Trip, and Probe, delivers Fer De Lance. The storyline for this picture is awful. The plot reminded me of Snakes on a Plane; however, the film focused more on the submarine than the actual snakes. The acting was better than average and the cast included David Janssen (The Fugitive) and Hope Lange (Death Wish). “You could use another 10 hours in the decompression chamber.” “I could use a drink.” This film came as part of a Thriller box set I received for Christmas from my father. I have been waiting for this holiday season to begin watching these classics. This particular picture spent too much time focusing on the schematics and capabilities of the submarine and did not depict the threats of the snakes enough (they were more of an after thought than the actual protagonists).
