George Palathingal Sydney Morning Herald Putting to one side its rough edges, Fighting Fear is another compelling story of contemporary Sydney culture. Rated: 4.5/5 Nov 10, 2011 Full Review Simon Weaving Screenwize A documentary that reaffirms the hard-drinking, hard-partying, hard-fighting values of good old fashioned mateship, as Bra Boys director Macario De Souza follows the friendship of two friends - one a Big Wave Surfer and the other a cage-fighter. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 24, 2011 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) If you can wait until Fighting Fear hits DVD or TV -- it would have fared better as a one-hour TV special -- you won't be missing much. Rated: 2/5 Nov 10, 2011 Full Review Erin Free FILMINK (Australia) With two compelling figures at its core, this engagingly honest and unapologetically positive doco makes for exciting and ultimately moving viewing. Nov 10, 2011 Full Review Peter Galvin sbs.com.au The film has no real intimacy -- which makes us all outsiders -- and no apparent goal beyond cheering these guys on. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 10, 2011 Full Review Andrew L. Urban Urban Cinefile Macario De Souza (co-director of Bra Boys) and his editing team manages to balance the film's disparate elements of Joel Edgerton's restrained narration, fresh interviews, archival footage and re-enactments in a satisfying and exciting mix Nov 5, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Super docu, voor iedereen die fan is van zowel surf als MMA ! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member "Bra Boys", through its aggrandizement of violent macho behaviour and its propagandistic slant on the character of the Maroubra residents who it portrays, garners a fairly wide audience appeal. This movie on the other hand portrays the two central characters as victims as well as perpetrators of violence, as immature 20 somethings who have now matured and realised the errors of their ways, as noble hard working types pursuing their aspirations to excellence in cage fighting and surfing as competitive sports. As a result it has a somewhat more weakened appeal and at the end turns out to be a relatively mundane sluggish doco targeted to MMA and surfing enthusiasts. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It's probably more suited to being a TV documentary but it's still pretty compelling to watch these two bra boys ride 20 ft waves and have a wee scrap in the old octagon. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The power of friendship can change your life Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
