Wild-living Tina (Sylvie Testud) is in prison for shoplifting, until she is mistakenly released on parole. This brings her to the desk of uptight judge Carole (Sandrine Kiberlain), who by happenstance asks Tina to help her decipher a suspect's string of slang-filled profanity. From there, the two strike up an unusual friendship, which involves Tina covering up her past, moving in with Carole and collaborating with her to thwart criminals, including shady gambler Mermot (François Berléand).
