It's still only for the gore-thirsty faithful, but Final Destination 5 represents a surprising return to form for the franchise.

Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Among this cast of unluckies, there is no future Jamie Lee Curtis. But you do take the film home with you -- to all your own toys -- and that's what decent horror is supposed to do. Rated: 3/5 Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Final Destination 5 won't be known for any stellar performances, but first-time feature director Steven Qualye can rest assured he scared the daylights out his audiences. Rated: B+ Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com I don't have a lot to say about Final Destination 5 save that, for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed sitting in a theatre watching one of these efforts from beginning to end. Alexander T I love all of the final destination movies, and this one is the best. It has the best deaths, and probably the highest quality. It is very entertaining and enjoyable. The suspense will leave you at the edge of your seat. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Ash P This was the other Final Destination film that I remember seeing it in theaters, and I will say it is better than the fourth film. However, it does feel the same as how I always thought about the previous Final Destination films. I just found them okay. I do love how this is more on the darker tone of things, and the use of the 3D is much better than how the fourth film had failed. The kills are gruesome and creative as they go. Even the simple premonitions in the form of objects interacted by the survivors work well. Yet as every Final Destination film goes, the writing is as you'd expect from the franchise. I like Nicholas D'Agosto as the lead, while everyone else becomes as they're written to be. One is a pervy dweeb, one going through depression until becoming cynical, one being comfort for her boyfriend, the others just being okay. You also have to give Courtney B. Vance credit for being involved and seeing Tony Todd present again before his passing over ten years later. That opening sequence on the bridge was awesome. A couple of kills were cool, and the best sequence I would have to give would have to be the eye laser part. I also have to give them props for setting up step-by-step in a casual way before someone's death could occur. Especially the gymnastics sequence. The one in the gymnasium takes the cake for the set-up department. As speaking of set-up, I was still blown away how the film itself had set up for a previous film like I was when I'd seen this in theaters. That was a good twist. Overall, it's not perfect and at the least better than the fourth film. I'm gonna give this film seven and a half eye laser scenes out of ten. 7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Josh A This feels very different to the other movies in the franchise. It's much more of a dark, serious slow burn (as slow as a Final Destination movie can be), compared to the others. It's like the Final Destination equivalent of dark chocolate. It's also my favourite movie in the franchise, at least until Bloodlines comes out as that might take the Number 1 spot. Let's begin. The deaths in this film are fantastic. You'd think they'd tone it down for the more serious movie, but they don't. We have a gymnastics death scene, one with laser eye surgery that was terrifying and my favourite death in the series that isn't a disaster, and a guy getting crushed by a Buddha statue. It's great and adds fun to the film, which it needed. And also, I have to mention its nature as a prequel. It's cool to see the actual events of Flight 180 from the inside instead of just from the premonition, and when you think about it, on rewatches this could be a good prelude to the other films. It introduces the concept, teases Final Destination 1 and the ending montage could be seen as a preview for the rest of the films and their death scenes. So, that's what I thought about that aspect of the film: it's a great prequel. Overall, a great Final Destination movie and a solid prelude to the original series. Can't wait for Bloodlines! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Mario G Definitivamente es mi favorita de esta saga, manteniendo la esencia de las muertes, pero con un final que te vuela la cabeza. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Sergio A A cinematic masterpiece of horror. a must-see tentpole Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review r96 s 'Final Destination 5' actually won me over in the end. There's a detail about it that I didn't know about before watching, it's to do with the conclusion. I'm glad I was unaware, it made it much more enjoyable to see. If you plan of seeing this, go in as blind as possible - it's worth it. The film does eventually (much of the film plays out similarly, mind) do something different with the plot, which is something I've wanted to see whilst watching the previous four entries. It involves Miles Fisher's Peter, a character that isn't perfectly written but is narrowly serviceable. Nicholas D'Agosto is a decent lead, while Emma Bell also appears - first time I've seen her act away from 'The Walking Dead'. Courtney B. Vance is solid in a smaller role, though P. J. Byrne's character is annoying; one like that is kinda a staple of these, tbf. The effects are as good as across the opening three films, but are a step above 'The Final Destination'. The main event looks the part and is fun to see, I'd say it's the best disaster in any of the sequels. There are also couple of well done deaths across the 90 minutes too. It isn't an undoubtedly good movie, but I think all in all I'd consider it just about passable. The ending might not totally work if you analysed it deeply (or maybe it would, I don't mind either way) but it worked for me so I'm happy with it.
