Critics Consensus

It's still only for the gore-thirsty faithful, but Final Destination 5 represents a surprising return to form for the franchise.

Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Among this cast of unluckies, there is no future Jamie Lee Curtis. But you do take the film home with you -- to all your own toys -- and that's what decent horror is supposed to do. Rated: 3/5 Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Final Destination 5 won't be known for any stellar performances, but first-time feature director Steven Qualye can rest assured he scared the daylights out his audiences. Rated: B+ Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com I don't have a lot to say about Final Destination 5 save that, for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed sitting in a theatre watching one of these efforts from beginning to end. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 27, 2012 Full Review Stephen A. Russell Orion's Shoulder (Substack) A big yes to the 3D bridge collapse and boat mast impaling ... the agonisingly prolonged gymnasium jelly bones moment, the dark me-too comeuppance of sleaze-avenging acupuncture... Dario Argento-operatic laser surgery and the sublime time loop. Jack P Without a doubt the best in the franchise. Nothing but campiness and gore. While it still falls victim to many of the same flaws as the rest of the Final Destination series, it features has some of my favorite deaths and the main characters are well written and give solid performances. This movie is also significantly better paced than the rest and the cinematography is great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Sergio A Except for one particularly impactful death, the others are rather forgettable. However, the opening scene stands out for its intensity and execution. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Jelisije J Not a bad sequel, but the twist doesn't work which hurts the films final product. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review matthias s **Final Destination 5 – ★★★☆☆** Okay, so *Final Destination 5* isn't topping any franchise best-of lists, but hey—after the disaster that was part four, this felt like a welcome return to form. I still remember being too young to see this one in theaters, stuck watching something else while all the cool kids got their death-by-destiny fix. Thankfully, the premonition scene slaps hard—bridge collapse mayhem that rivals the OG trilogy’s chaos. The kills? Inventive, gory fun done right. It’s not quite up to par with the early entries, but it's got energy, style, and most importantly, Tony Todd (even if just a whisper of him). Honestly, it teeters on 2.5 stars… *but* that final twist? Absolutely killer. The kind of ending that makes you reevaluate everything you just watched. Imperfect, yes—but this one actually *feels* like a Final Destination movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Audience Member I really liked this movie. This was my favorite Final Destination installment until the new Bloodlines one that I saw in theaters recently. The ending to this is a better twist than the third act of the first scream movie in my opinion. It was such a good ending to me. The bridge collapse is awesome and all of the kills are pretty good in this. The only part I don't like is the lest two deaths of the bridge collapse premonition. They both just look very bad with the CGI 3D effects, but I can get past those. It's the only thing that takes this down 0.5 stars. Great movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review Arlen B The first movie was definitely the best of the series. However the 5th installment was right there. I love the ending. A twist I certainly didn’t see coming but makes total sense. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
