Critics Consensus

It's still only for the gore-thirsty faithful, but Final Destination 5 represents a surprising return to form for the franchise.

Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Among this cast of unluckies, there is no future Jamie Lee Curtis. But you do take the film home with you -- to all your own toys -- and that's what decent horror is supposed to do. Rated: 3/5 Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Final Destination 5 won't be known for any stellar performances, but first-time feature director Steven Qualye can rest assured he scared the daylights out his audiences. Rated: B+ Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com I don't have a lot to say about Final Destination 5 save that, for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed sitting in a theatre watching one of these efforts from beginning to end. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 27, 2012 Full Review Stephen A. Russell Orion's Shoulder (Substack) A big yes to the 3D bridge collapse and boat mast impaling ... the agonisingly prolonged gymnasium jelly bones moment, the dark me-too comeuppance of sleaze-avenging acupuncture... Dario Argento-operatic laser surgery and the sublime time loop. May 25, 2025 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants Bloody delicious catnip Jan 14, 2022 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Nicholas D'Agosto is probably strongest among the cast here. Bisquiteen T The premonition is boring, the kills are boring, and, what shall I call the actors? Right, boring. While the previous Final Destinations (excepting 4) were campy and goofy and over the top, the premonition always hit the spot (see how many millennials don't want to drive behind a logging truck) and the kills would be so crazy they were fun. This wasn't crazy, this wasn't fun. It just happened. For chrissakes, the main character was at his best delivering 2- to 3-word lines as Jan's assistant in The Office. Making it into a prequel was the only clever thing it had going for it, and frankly I hate that this is now canonically the first movie because it has absolutely no right to be part of the same franchise as 3, 1, and 2. (Again, 4 can get lost forever.) Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review Alexander S A continuously fun plot, but clunky character structure, and nothing really fresh on the table compared to the rest of the series. Final Destination 5 is still a tolerable movie, but it would be nice for the series to surprise us with a compelling story that allows us to take death more seriously than we did with the rest of the series. Grading: C Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Daria M. That was a great prequel of Final Destination 1. They are a good cast with famous characters. And a good 3D. That best song in ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Pedro Henrique C Final Destination 5 is neither perfect nor innovative, but it has a very interesting premise, just like the first film in the franchise. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/25/25 Full Review Regan M. Campy but clever. Nice Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review Shaun R These films are pretty much all the same, and I’m not sure how much more original any sequel in the franchise can be. They are however entertaining, and the deaths are enough to keep a horror fan happy. Due to the concept of the films, I am not sure if these films will ever stop being made. For the sake of 90 minutes of nonsense, I say bring them on. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
