J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Geoffrey Rush so excels at playing real-life figures... that one welcomes the very idea of him as sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti. Mar 5, 2020 Full Review Robert Daniels 812filmreviews Stop me if you've heard this one before (no, seriously. stop me). A depraved creative genius is on a quest to find artistic value in living, treating everyone around 'him' like sh*t in the process. Rated: 2/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic It's always interesting to ask artists how they know their work is finished. Whatever else goes on this "Final Portrait," Tucci captures that struggle perfectly. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 19, 2018 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants In its ordinariness, in its bemused honesty about the very real business of having the nerve to plunk one's self down and think anybody cares enough to eventually look and then making something from start to finish, it's better than what we're used to Jan 14, 2022 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review Given the talent involved in Final Portrait, it's a real shame it's not better, or at least has a point. Rated: C Aug 21, 2021 Full Review Vladan Petkovic Cineuropa Final Portrait leaves the viewer with the feeling that he or she might as well have caught it on TV. And for a movie about a great painter and sculptor, this is not a recommendation. Sep 3, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Gareth v Geoffrey Rush is always a pleasure to watch, but he can't make up for how boring & self-indulgent this movie is. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review isla s This is quite a philosophical watch. Its a slow paced film and may bore some people but I liked it in terms of the characters, with the eccentric Alberto Giacometti and his curious final subject, the art lover James Lord. Its a bit of a thoughtful watch, with some good dialogue and I found it intriguing seeing how the two main characters got on and regarded each other as the days went by, while he worked on his painting. Its partially subtitled, being set in France, so thats worth knowing in case subtitles are a bit put off to you but it didn't especially bother me. The majority of the dialogue is in English, with the two main characters obviously talking in English, so subtitles are only present some of the time. There is definitely a cat and mouse aspect to the painter and the, I suppose, paintee. There is an element of fragility and of stubbornness present too but I won't say anymore so as not to risk giving any spoilers. I quite liked the musical score, with numerous classical pieces played, that helped to heighten the viewers sense of the characters state of mind at the time. I'd recommend this film if your ok with slow paced, partially subtitled films. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Frances H Such a delightful film about the vagaries of the artistic mind and how incomprehensible that mind is to a person who doesn't see with the same vision. Loved it--a real tour d' force of Hammer and Rush playing off one another! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/19 Full Review Audience Member Story, a total waste of your time. Acting, great. That's why there is a star. A bit cruel as Armie and Geoffrey were both great actors. But it needed a better story. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/20/19 Full Review Audience Member Slow burn study on the artistic and creative process, with precise and enjoyable performances. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/16/18 Full Review Audience Member Overall, I found this film positive. The biggest highlights are watching an outstanding portrayal of Alberto from Geoffrey Rush and witnessing a dramatic story of unexpected friendship. The directional choices for some of the filming and editing ended up becoming a bigger distraction to certain key moments to the story. - Finesse Movie Reviews Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
