Set one month after the 2002 Gujarat riots, the film follows a mosaic of interconnected lives—Hindus haunted by guilt, Muslims living in fear, families torn by suspicion—over a single day, exposing how engineered hate lingers long after the fires die. With extraordinary restraint, an impeccable ensemble (Naseeruddin Shah, Deepti Naval, Paresh Rawal, Shahana Goswami), haunting cinematography, and real survivor-inspired stories, Firaaq refuses sensationalism or easy answers. It humanizes every character without excusing complicity, forcing viewers to confront the human cost of division, silence, and fear.
