Audience Member Smart, real, and interesting all the way through. A send up of the lit life in NYC these days. The shots of hip types was funny, and I lvoed the cops and their book club! More, more, more.... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member If you like small movies that focus on people traversing an evening two in their lives (which is a personal favorite type of film), thank this movie is for you. A married couple, both writers but the wife significantly more successful, venture to a salon party at her publisher's home in the hopes of networking for the husbands career. Everything goes wrong, from missing wives, slacker cops, obnoxious cultural intellectuals, sex crazed book editors and impromptu spills in the pool. The conclusion of the adventure is far from surprising, but it doesn't really matter because we had fun along the way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member It's nice to watch a movie where the world isn't going to end. It's also great to see a film where race isn't an issue and people work through their problems for the better. It also does a nice job of making fun of all those annoying and pretentious "artists" out there. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Love it!!! The writing, the story, the actors!! Everything!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this at SXSW and was struck by the ease of the humor and the simple charm that enfolded me once the movie wrapped up. Winning performances all around, but Lee and Cenac are truly inviting presences into the mannered but vicious world of the novelist's mind. Sheri Linden Hollywood Reporter A low-key comedy of errors whose leads' underplayed oomph bolsters the uneven scenario. Dec 6, 2017 Full Review Andrew Barker Variety While it certainly has its moments, it remains frustratingly one-note, too cool to really commit to the screwball farce the premise is crying out for, and too enamored with picking off easy targets to draw real blood. Mar 14, 2017 Full Review Kahron Spearman Austin Chronicle Fits and Starts ultimately glows through Cenac's unique charisma. Mar 13, 2017 Full Review Aaron Peterson The Hollywood Outsider Fits and Starts is an entertaining but forgettable tale of two married writers trying to find middle ground. Rated: 5.5/10 Oct 10, 2018 Full Review Christopher Llewellyn Reed Hammer to Nail The director displays a firm control of all the elements in this, her first feature, promising, we hope, even greater cinematic treasures to come. Feb 25, 2018 Full Review Samantha Ladwig Bust Magazine Fits and Starts is a hilarious interpretation of modern artistry. Rated: 3/5 Dec 6, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews
