matthias s "Flashpoint," takes you on a ride through the Texas borderlands, with two charismatic leads, Kris Kristofferson and Treat Williams, who share an undeniable on-screen chemistry. Their banter and camaraderie provide some genuinely good laughs throughout the film. The film boasts some terrific dialogue, and the presence of Kurtwood Smith adds an extra layer of intrigue. His portrayal is as compelling as ever. However, "Flashpoint" does stumble on its rather thin and predictable plot. While the friendship between the main characters is the film's highlight, the storyline lacks depth and complexity. Nonetheless, if you're in the mood for a bit of '80s action with entertaining moments and great one-liners, "Flashpoint" won't disappoint. It's a decent watch that, despite its flaws, manages to keep you entertained. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Clarence C This movie answers the question "What if Super Troopers wasn't a comedy but rather a gritty 1980s South Texas border neo-noir slash homoerotic buddy-cop dramedy, and it starred Kris Kristofferson and Treat Williams, and it had a soundtrack by Tangerine Dream?" The on-location cinematography in the American Southwest desert was really good too. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/23 Full Review Paul D This is a good movie! It's one of the best JFK assasination films ever made. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Jelisije J A movie that starts off a bit average, but then takes a nice twist and turn that left me with a surprisingly memorable time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review bill o An absolute diamond of a movie , with great performances from all cast , a real find. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The premise that two border patrol agents discover the remains of a possible second gunmen in the JFK assassination in South Texas is intriguing enough for a movie in itself, and by a creative team, possibly even stretched out to a limited run TV series. Why, then, add in a subplot about the border patrol being replaced by computers? Or dedicate so much narrative time to the cartel's drop schedule? Or let the camera linger for so, so, so long on Kris Kristofferson's (admittedly impressive) naked sixpack? Maybe a JFK movie should leave you asking questions, but just not these questions. Laurie Horn Miami Herald Suffice it to note that the movie leaves you feeling vaguely unsatisfied, as though the teller had switched the story of his fireside yarn before the Showdown at the OK Corral. Rated: 2/4 Apr 15, 2021 Full Review Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer Flashpoint is the first feature film by William Tannen, veteran TV commercial director, and his inexperience working with actors and plot shows. Rated: 2/4 Apr 15, 2021 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times "Flashpoint" is such a good thriller for so much of its length that it's kind of a betrayal when the ending falls apart. Rated: 3/4 Apr 15, 2021 Full Review Howard Waldstein CBR Flashpoint is still an entertaining, competent thriller that warrants rediscovery for committed performances from all the key players. Jul 18, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …deserves to gain a little more recognition for packaging politics and thrills together effectively… Rated: 3/5 Aug 13, 2022 Full Review Tom Hutchinson Radio Times Despite its title and the combustible chemistry of its two leads (Kris Kristofferson and Treat Williams as US border patrolmen), this is rather a damp squib with a final revelation route-mapped all too obviously.
