      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Chevy Chase remains ideally suited for the role, but Fletch Lives lacks its predecessor's wit, relying instead on silly disguises, cheap stereotypes, and largely unfunny gags.

karl n Maybe I'm simple but I laugh my head off on these. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review S S Oh my God it's Fletch so crazy one of Chevys best characters Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/19/22 Full Review Stephen C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 34 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/22 Full Review christopher c. m Being in the deep south in an 80s comedy there were plenty of the South stereotypes that some will find offensive or uncomfortable. But overall, those stereotype are mild and funny at times. But overall, it really pushed the boundaries of PG even for 1989 in some of the jokes. But a good story and a very good mystery. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review joel h Fletch Lives is a fantastic sequel. It's just as entertaining as the original movie. Admittedly, I grew up watching this movie, and I know that some people don't find it as funny as I do. Nevertheless, I can't help but grin almost the entire time and I can quote almost the entire film. I think Chevy Chase is at his prime during the Fletch movies. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review robert p A so so movie that manages (just barely) to achieve a *2* star rating!! Boyd Farrow Empire Magazine Funny and inventive vehicle for Chevy Chase's hapless and genuinely funny comic creation. Rated: 4/5 Jul 1, 2015 Full Review Chris Willman Los Angeles Times In this meager sequel, as in its popular predecessor, Chevy Chase demolishes every easy target in sight with a quip of the tongue. Some of the lines are funny, but after a while you just want to smack him. Jul 1, 2015 Full Review Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer Being so sour about Fletch makes one feel like Kvetch, but seriously, is all it takes to be a screen comic the ability to flare the nostrils and to fall down? Rated: 2/4 Jul 1, 2015 Full Review Candice Russell South Florida Sun-Sentinel With the exception of an elaborate fantasy sequence straight out of a Disney movie and a running gag about a Cadillac without brakes, Fletch Lives should have been called Fletch Staggers. Jul 1, 2015 Full Review TV Guide Chase delivers a one-note performance, consisting mainly of predictable comebacks and salacious leers, while the characters who become the targets of his witty rejoinders are weak and silly stereotypes. Rated: 2/5 Jul 1, 2015 Full Review Dennis King Tulsa World Your appreciation of this film will rest largely on your taste for Chase's particular brand of snide comedy. If you like Chase, Fletch lives; if you hate Chase, Fletch dies. Rated: 2/4 Jul 1, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews
