Lisa Kennedy Variety In introducing us to people who care deeply about the work they do, the animals they ranch, the people they employ and the food they bring to market or offer at their tables, the documentary stirs a sense of possibility. Feb 8, 2023 Full Review Alissa Wilkinson New York Times That sounds like too many things to pack into a movie, but Reichl is a winsome guide who uses some of her own history as an activist, a critic and an avid cook to guide us through the maze of questions. Feb 2, 2023 Full Review Ty Burr Ty Burr's Watch List (Substack) The only people who need to see this movie are people who eat. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 27, 2023 Full Review Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) The film is really begging us to just take a second to look at how are we living, and ask if that's really the best way to live. Nov 4, 2024 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue ... finds hope in innovation, although it ultimately tries to bite off more than it can chew. Jon R Loved this film - saw it at the IFC Center in NYC. Been a fan of Laura Gabbert's work for some time - City of Gold. In this film we get to follow noted food critic Ruth Reichl as she tries to determine what is wrong with our food system that doesn't support people who create our food (farmer's/ranchers) those who prepare (chef's) or consumers. We also get to know Ruth's fascinating story - and the film has some shining lights of farmers and restauranteurs who are doing great work to make a difference- like White Oak Farms in Georgia. If you care about food this film is essential viewing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
