KC Star Staff Kansas City Star Excitingly beautiful photographic effects of the authentic settings add luster to the production, with the film's only serious drawback being that it is a bit too lengthy. Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Jay Carmody Washington Star [Foreign Intrigue] is pretty much the pat formula that Sheldon Reynolds uses in the small economy, or television, version of his serial. Expanded to fit the large screen, it suffers from what might be called self-consciousness and pretentiousness. Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Melvin Maddocks Christian Science Monitor The Riviera, Vienna, and Stockholm -- one could not ask for better sets, but what happens on them is mostly third-rate Hitchcock. Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Janet Graves Photoplay With tough composure, Robert Mitchum moves through a satisfyingly intricate mystery film, given extra eye appeal by location trips to various European sites. Rated: 3/4 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A delightful find for Mitchum fans, Foreign Intrigue manages to strike a curious tone and the reveal of its central mystery is indeed satisfactory. SICKS6SIX S I'm a big fan of Mitchum, he has made some good films, He does tend to play the same person a lot which can be a bit tedious but not as tedious as this film. wrote, produced and directed by the same person so he must be to blame, he wasted his money hiring a big star for this film as it is awful, boring, and dull plus the ending is the biggest anti-climax of any film I've seen in a long time, its as if the author ran out of ideas and just rushed the last few chapters off so he get down the pub before last orders, I can't recommend it unless you have to see everything Mitchum ever made and this is the last one you have on your bucket list, if that is not your reason to watch this farce avoid it, you will fall asleep and never wake up again, Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Mur T Does anyone know how Danemore was able to ascertain the identities of the people who he was blackmailing? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Not bad, not great. A European spy caper with touches of noir as a press agent (Robert Mitchum) endeavors to learn about the identity of his recently-deceased employer. Had more attention been paid to the atmosphere and less of the overused film score, this could have been a top notch spy thriller. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member What begins as a perfectly acceptable international spy thriller, and ends with some post WWII political intrigue, is as usual ruined by Hollywood shoehorning in a completely unrealistic "love at first sight" romance that acts like throwing TNT into a lake. Everything goes belly up and starts to smell. It is just ridiculous. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The plot of Foreign Intrigue is at times convoluted and fails to intrigue the viewer, but the rich color, well chosen locations, and moody music make it enjoyable to watch. Robert Mitchum fits well into the lead role of a loyal but curious American and Frédéric O'Brady proves to be the perfect foil as his mischievous and unwanted sidekick. The transition partway through into a Nazi thriller is not unexpected, and does offer up some interesting ideas, if not fully developed ones. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked this film. I feel it´s underrated. Yes, a bit wooden/studio at times but on the whole very watchable. Good acting. Thank God for the absence of stupid action and sadistic violence. It does contain some ideas and realistic dialogue, something you canÃ,´t say about many "modern" flicks. One has to remember what the world looked like in the 50s when the question of war crimes still was something very real. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
