John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture ... a noir written and directed by Paul Schrader that's so listless and numbing we need not wonder why it went directly to cable. Charles F Any married man who has been cheated on, especially while on his honeymoon with his new bride, will have no sympathy for the "cabana boy" or Ray Liotta's character's wife in this film. I couldn't watch more than fifteen minutes of the movie, because of the contempt and hatred I have for those characters and their so-called "romance", so while it's unfair of me to give the movie one star, I can't give it two, because any movie that normalizes and promotes infidelity, and which tries to get the audience to cheer for the cheaters, is not something I will ever support, much less recommend. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Ronald H Entirely cringeworthy, with some of the corniest dialogue I've ever heard and a storyline that will have you rolling your eyes. The female lead is the most shallow and insipid character imaginable. Without doubt, this is the worst film Paul Schrader ever made. What was he thinking???? And how on earth did the actors make it through this with straight faces? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Audience Member The worst 01 hour: and 55 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review dan b Very dumb, a chick flick for sure Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member IT'S GOOD, BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED IN THE END. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay, technically there are worse. I usually like Joseph Fiennes. The movie's plot was badly written and heavily contrived. There was nothing romantic about the romance in this movie. Every line was softly spoken in true stalker fashion. This is the guy that you do NOT want to be with. The whole, "You will never be loved like this," thing is not sweet and loving. It's creepy. When she says he was the man she loved, I asked myself, "Why?" She knew nothing about him. For 14+ years she loved a man she knew nothing about. She stayed with a man she didn't love or care about. Ella was weak and unlikable. The acting was stilted. The plot was terrible. I think the best acting in the movie was Javier. Ray reprises the same kind of role he usually plays. He did a fine job at playing the same character he usually plays. This movie has probably ruined Fiennes for me as well. Just all around bad. 1 star only because I finished it. Rotten. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews
