Richard Yu Cinema Escapist Forever Young ended up much more like P.F. Chang's - that is to say, all the pieces are there, but in the wrong order and magnitude. Jul 8, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Ken More of a sociology documentary on the role BTS fans (known as "Army") played in their global success. Mostly it shows the lack of real world social outlets for teens and young adults in today's world. Many Army have found friendship, love and acceptance in their shared worship of BTS. There's nothing wrong with this, of course, it's a healthy, positive outlet, but that's the underlying revelation you won't want to overlook. This is not a concert film and there are very few performances -- and most of those are incomplete. The featured interviews are now mostly older adults, perhaps meant to dispell the myth that all BTS fans are 15-years-old, but the complete omission of younger fans is a bid odd. No doubt because the producers didn't want to be bothered with the legal hassles of minors. The film ends as the band members enlist to do their mandatory military service. What's curious about this sequence is no one seems excited about it. Military service is sold as an important male cultural experience but I suspect the band member's expression of fear and apprehension is more realistic. The film concludes with Jin, the eldest member's release and solo performance in June 2024, so we don't get to see the rest of the members who were released this year. So we're left wondering, "Why now?" Why didn't they make this film for release in December 2025 to include the Army's joy surrounding the band's comeback? So I can only give it three starts given the anticlimactic ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/25 Full Review Read all reviews
