I suppose the purpose of the film is to humanize both sides. It succeeds only to a degree. We can sense what the film wants to say better than the film can say it. Go to Full Review

This is powerful stuff but, like so many political abduction dramas, suffers from a certain static quality. Go to Full Review

See more 11/16/2011 About as good as it gets for this genre. The best Brazilian actors plus Alan Arkin. Very intelligent movie. Even though I ultimately bemoan the lack of a more cosmic perspective - one that eshews violence as a tool for solving society's problems - this is a movie that earned its Oscar nomination for best foreign film.
