      Critics Consensus

Four Kids and It has a few moments of whimsy and charm, but it's not enough to leave a lasting impression.

grace h Fantastic! Good acting, good plot and fun story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member With it being the adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson's novel, it's terrible. Four Kids and It contains poor acting, bad CGI and a horrific redesign for the main protagonist from the novel that will probably give you nightmares. To top it off, the kids might like it. You won't. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Anyone remember the old movie 5 Children and It? This "film" is literally a ripoff, I prefer the older kids movies myself and 5 Children and It was much more entertaining. The 5 Children movie was released in 2004, the book 4 Kids was published in 2012 and the movie for 4 Kids released in 2020..... how is this not a copywrite disaster? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member despite the poor rating our family enjoyed this one and gave it two thumbs up as the story was creative with a sand monster who gives you wishes when you catch him. The other part of the story was families coming together as siblings learn to like and tolerate one another. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Literally one of the worst films I've ever watched. Like why? There is nothing big that happens in it, nothing that the four kids have to try and do; for example there could have been a plot twist where the kids have to try and save 'it'. There's also a disgusting part near the start of the movie where the boy pukes all over the floor. Would not recommend to anyone. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review peter w Overall, for some audience members, there are many elements that are pleasing, including the performance by Russell Brand and the perfect voice work from Michael Caine. While it is obvious this film is aimed at younger ages and the key themes are attempting to be heartfelt, the film does have some faults which hold it back from leaving a longer-lasting impact on movie lovers or fans of the novel - Walkden Entertainment Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) Even at a time when new family entertainment will always be gratefully received, it doesn't feel too much to wish for that films for children - sorry, kids - should be built a bit more rigorously than this. Rated: 2/5 Nov 27, 2020 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald The problem boils down to this question of sincerity. Director Anthony de Emmony does not feel the magic of this story. Rated: 2/5 Sep 24, 2020 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Sky Cinema's new family adventure seems built to be consumed and quickly forgotten. Rated: 2/5 Aug 10, 2020 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) The school holidays are upon us, and I think this is probably the family film most likely to appeal to the whole family, and to find itself rewatched in years to come on the streaming services. Rated: 3/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) Very little kids will get a kick from the narky, farty magic critter voiced by Michael Caine. But that overlong running time will snap all attention spans in two. Rated: 2/5 Jul 30, 2021 Full Review David 'Mad Dog' Bradley Adelaide Review A hard slog at getting up to 110 minutes...
