12/18/2014 The flashy Bava style is here, but the movie itself is tedious. See more 11/12/2012 This pop art confection proves Bava's ability to work well outside of the horror genre. It's less a salacious exploitation item than a rumination on the falibility of sight and the unreliability of the narrator. Above and beyond that, it's also a fun, endearing little movie. Still stylish and bizarre as you'd expect from Bava, but where's the blood and the madness? None. Bava's twist on "Rashomon" and "Last Year At Marienbad" done as a sex comedy just isn't funny. Rape ain't funny, whether it really happened or not. Watching the 4 versions of the same story throughout, you'd expect by the end that a fifth hidden version where a maniacal killer slashes through each character. But it doesn't happen.... Although there is a lot of kitchy music, 60's/70's weirdness, and avant-garde art that will either make you cringe or make you laugh with unintentional humor... It also presents a surprisingly frank attitude about sexuality for its time, and there's some great over the top characters and snappy dialogue.
