Audience Member Fred & Vinnie is very funny and not in a pandering or ironic way. Fred Stoller is very good as himself. Angelo Tsarouchas is very good as half-destitute Vinnie D'Angelo. Fred Stoller wrote the screenplay and it is clear he understands funny -- Angelo as well. The direction and editing are very good: they let the movie's comedy breathe. No 'laugh now' musical cues or stings, no clearly-improvised-and-so-cringeworthy exchanges, none of those failsafe audience-pleaser type tricks here. The script is neat, tight, perfect. Vinnie is a very funny character who is never put on display to be laughed at: he's not a cliche slob, not a drunken gambler nor an obvious user -- he seems to be as driven as he is lazy as he is frightened. And he's a good match for Fred Stoller, who's not really so different. Fred & Vinnie is incredibly funny, deeply sad, so wonderfully and frighteningly human. And I don't even like movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member For fans of shows like Everybody Loves Raymond, I'm confident you'll have a positive reaction to Fred & Vinnie. It's charming, well-acted, and occasionally very funny, but the film's "about nothing" plot eventually just wore me out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
