Two horror icons face off in this supernatural movie. Disfigured serial killer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), who attacks his victims in their dreams, has lost much of his power since citizens of his town have become less afraid of him. Enlisting the help of fellow violent murderer Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger), Freddy orchestrates a new killing spree. However, when the hockey-mask-wearing psychopath won't stop chopping up Freddy's intended victims, the two ghouls start to battle each other.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Scary, gory, nightmare-inducing slasher. Rated: 2/5 Dec 24, 2010 Full Review Brian Thomas Chicago Reader Director Ronny Yu loses energy when it shifts to the dumb teen protagonists, and the script faithfully wallows in cliches so ridiculous they border on Scary Movie territory. Apr 5, 2010 Full Review Time Out It's pretty obvious where director Ronnie Yu's sympathies lie. Still, he can't find a satisfactory resolution to that old teaser about an implacable force vs the immovable object: how to kill off your cash cow and milk her too. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Brian Bisesi Horror Movie Club Podcast It is a shame to see so much CGI in 2 franchises known for their practical effects work, but once the script emerges from its introductory exposition phase, the film becomes clever enough to lift these flailing franchises back up from the depths of Hell. Rated: 3/5 Dec 18, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy It manages to combine two durable franchises in a manner that doubtless made mutual devotees of the Police Academy and Rambo series green with envy. Rated: 2/4 Oct 20, 2024 Full Review Cassondra Feltus Black Girl Nerds Freddy vs. Jason is an early-aughts slasher with laughable dialogue, creative kills, and tons of blood dripping, spraying, and gushing everywhere. It’s the gory good time that fans wanted and remains an entertaining end to two long-running franchises. Rated: 3/5 Oct 13, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Pedro Henrique C Freddy VS. Jason (2003) tries to attract the public's attention with two very popular characters from the 80s, in this confusion they face each other to become the strongest and scariest. This unfortunately doesn't work at all here. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Wayne K Your enjoyment of Freddy vs. Jason very much depends on how much you’re willing to turn down your brain, as well as how badly you want to see 2 famous 80s slasher icons duke it out in a very 2000s ‘horror’ film. I put the word horror in quotations, because I don’t feel like this was ever really intended to scare people. In fact, I spent most of the time laughing my head off, be it at the bad CGI, the ridiculous character choices, the over-the-top violence, the ridiculous plot, the nebulous and nonsensical rules, or some combination of them all. With 2 franchises that have spent their entire duration ripping up and rewriting their own rulebook, there’s no way to properly get invested in the titular conflict. When Freddy or Jason gets stabbed through the chest, their throat slit or their head bashed in, I have no idea whether wounds like those are supposed to be fatal, therefore I have no idea who’s winning the battle, which only actually kicks off around the hour mark. It’s a perfect film to not take seriously because you really have no choice. Go in expecting dumb and you wont be let down. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review Garry A I've seen this multiple times. It makes me smile everytime. I just need them to make a Jason vs Michael film! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/25/25 Full Review Kasondra S Action packed. Legendary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Marsh X Unfortunately wasn't able to finish this one sitting due to the amount of pauses, which made a bit frustrating but that doesn't have any affect on my rating. I won't lie this movie was boring in a lot of parts but the silly fights between Jason and Freddy made up for it, there were a few funny moments, but not nearly as much as the previous movies in this franchise. I think this addition is just okay, don't love it, don't hate it. You can also see the improvement of visual effects over the years which is admirable. 5.5/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Jedi D Exactly what we wanted it to be. The film doesn't take itself too seriously and it's fun, slasher fun for fans of both franchises. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
