Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) The film offers a scholarly commentary on aspiration, self-projection and the street-level appropriation of couture exclusivity ... Rated: 3/5 Nov 1, 2015 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) The fascination of Fresh Dressed lies in the inventive and revealing way it interweaves politics, music and sociology. This, it turns out, is much more than just a documentary about fashion. Rated: 4/5 Oct 30, 2015 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Jenkins' film is never explicitly judgemental, but it does point us toward the ideological switcheroo that governs all fashion. Rated: 4/5 Oct 30, 2015 Full Review Jamie Healy Radio Times A fascinating recent history lesson, with rap superstars-turned-designers... Rated: 4/5 Aug 22, 2024 Full Review Angus Batey NME (New Musical Express) The establishment has reasserted itself, but hip-hop's sense of style - always fluid - has never diminished. Rated: 4/5 May 18, 2021 Full Review Allen Almachar The MacGuffin Yes, it's about consumerism ... but Jenkins throws in just enough to keep our attention the entire way through. Audience Member I gave this a spin via Netfux Streaming, and I was impressed. You get a nice overview of hip-hop fashion and how the earliest designers started out using pieces of other designers clothing to deconstruct and rebuild to make their own pieces, then went mainstream with a certain urban lifestyle look. Worth a rental. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Tim G Some pretty spectacular footage. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/17 Full Review Audience Member I didn't know Karl Kani was a real person until i watched this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic first half covering the origins of Hip Hop in the 5 boroughs, and it's style. How a desolate South Bronx gave birth to scratching, rap, breaking, graffiti and the distinctive fashion. Loses its way in the second half. Instead of covering gold chains, and African - influence it goes all economic Zoolander. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member great history lesson on contemporary Hip Hop & urban fashion. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Great access to creative people & good use of archive Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
