It's a mix of the first four original movies and feels like the perfect representation of the franchise. In my opinion, it's the best one. Trent is one of those characters I literally hate every time I watch this. He's on the same level as Joffrey from Game of Thrones. The blood and violence are finally here, which was extremely lacking throughout the franchise. The production is awesome, dark, and modern, and the camp feels like a real abandoned place. Watching this in 4K looks immaculate. The HDR in the woods is crisp. Jason feels gritty and soulless. Is this a movie we've seen 10 times before? Absolutely. But I genuinely think this is the best version of it. The pacing is a little off, with a great first act followed by parts that move too quickly. The ending is also abrupt, but that's Friday the 13th fashion. It's not an Oscar movie, but it's a great time and one I watch at least once a year around Halloween. Unlike previous films, Jason holds Whitney captive because she likely reminds him of his mother. Ultimately, the siblings manage to turn the tables, killing Jason and dumping him back into the lake. Outstanding cast (Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle, Willa Ford), great script, and sharp pacing. Derek Mears delivers a fantastic, much smarter Jason who actually runs. The opening sequence is brilliant, wiping out an entire cast group before the title card even rolls.
