What to Know

Critics Consensus

Friday the 13th Part 2 sets the template for the franchise to follow with more teen victims, more gruesome set pieces, and fewer reasons to keep following along.

John Corry New York Times The plot is an excuse for joining together horrors, all of the sado-masochist kind, and the acting is rudimentary at best. It probably will make a fortune. Feb 9, 2019 Full Review Gary Arnold Washington Post Director Steve Miner and writer Ron Kurz introduce more potential victims than they have time or invention to knock off. Feb 9, 2019 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Producer-director Steve Miner doesn't move in and out of scenes with the flair of original producer-director Sean Cunningham nor is he able to create the same nauseatingly realistic murder situations. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Friday the 13th Part 2 is a perfectly simple slasher that, thanks to Steve Miner's outstanding direction, achieves something most other entries don't: it's actually scary. Rated: 4/5 Oct 17, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Easily one of (if not THE) best Friday the 13th film, Part 2 introduces iconic Final Girl Ginny, features mean kills (RIP Mark) and has one of the best chases in slasher history. Plus: those jump scares and Manfredini's go-for-broke score! Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 13, 2023 Full Review John Brosnan Starburst It may be tacky, cheaply made and unoriginal but the basic formula, established in the first film by Sean Cunningham, is fool- proof. Paul G Part 1 was great but Part 2 is a masterpiece and my favourite horror movie of all time. This movie was made in the early 80's and is absolutely the best movie in the series. Amy Steele is brilliant. I wish she had continued into doing Part 3 but turned down the offer at the time. A great cast and well filmed. Jason was raw, realistic and scary while surviving alone in the bush. The movie has an awesome ending that continues with Part 3. The extra gory and graphic deleted scenes need to be added to the movie. It was great to finally see these deleted scenes, thanks to Scream Factory, after waiting 20 years. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Byron H 3/4 Part 2 is the best film in the Friday the 13th series & It's the closest one in the franchise to being a good film as a whole. Superior to the original, the chemistry between the actors is apparent which separates it from the rest of the Friday the 13th flicks. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Omar G Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), rating 9/10 stars. My favorite movie from the Friday the 13th series, I've seen it over 55 times over the decades and I've lost count, the things I like about the film is the age 1980, the music, it features my favorite lead character Ginny Field from the movie series. The woman I liked the most from all the Friday the 13th movies was Lauren-Marie Taylor. The only thing missing was the hockey mask for Jason Voorhees. Lots of beautiful women maybe some with rhinoplasty or implants Amy Steel as Ginny Field, Lauren-Marie Taylor as Vickie Perry, Marta Kober as Sandra and Kirsten Baker as Terry McCarthy. Also the extra counselors were beautiful that's why they hired them Jill Voight, China Chen and Carolyn Louden. The extra counselors should someone do something about them with artificial intelligence and make a trailer or when the perfected technology arrives make films about how Jason returns for the remaining counselors or they did not deserve to die? Sandra Dier, Jeff and Ted's trio was like Kevin Bacon's as Jack, Marcie and Ned Rubinstein. Vickie did not deserve to die but the best scene of all the movies of Friday series was when Jason Voorhees is wielding a knife and stabs Vickie. Replica deaths from Mario Bava's A Bay of Blood (1971) and the appearance of the killer from The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976). The Friday the 13th movies had a formula like 007. At the beginning flash back from before this film, later a group of young people are in Crystal Lake, they are killed, there is a dream scene and Jason is presumed dead. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Jarrod B The Best Friday entry in the series. The opening scene is a stretch, how does he find the surviving camp counselor. silly. but there's more back story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Audience Member I love jason design in this movie but that does not excuse the fact that the movie is bad it is, terrible just bad the characters are forgettable the plot is dumb why is jason trying to kill them he already got his revenge just my opinion to much sex sceens too Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
