      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Thought not without its charms -- chief among them John Travolta's endearingly over-the-top performance -- From Paris with Love is too muddled and disjointed to satisfy. Read critic reviews

The film was so so. They had a good idea for a film but didn't execute the story correctly. It needed a rewrite. Some action scenes were too chaotic and cartoony at times. The film is basically an old fashion mis-match of partner. One the positive Jonathan Rhys Meyers is great in the film. However, John Travolta is miscast as his over the top partner. At times, John seemed too cartoony. Travolta had no on screen chemistry with Meyers. Another actor in Travolta's role could have done a much better job.

From Paris With Love is a wild and crazy action film that's pretty entertaining for a popcorn flick. The story follows a low level CIA agent that gets partnered with an out-of-control specialist that's comes to Paris to take down a terrorist cell. John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers lead the cast and work well together. Travolta does a particularly good job at pulling off a crazy character and has a lot of fun doing it. However, the film pushes the characters and the story a bit too far and it starts to become ridiculous (and not in a fun way). Yet even with the ridiculousness, From Paris With Love is a fun thriller with a lot of exciting action.

So much action, yet so little to take away from it. It's a very average movie that has over-the-top, loud, and in-your-face action that never stimulates your senses whatsoever. At least John Travolta was somewhat funny. The lead character, James Reece who is played by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, is the protagonist and his story is a story that we, somewhat, get invested into but it isn't something that we haven't seen from the past. There's an overload of over-the-top action that is so ridiculous but yet nothing stands out as a memorable set-piece. Everything, in the end, was for entertainment sake and did "From Paris With Love" succeed? Somewhat but it could've been much much better. Good thing that, with a movie like this that is blatantly trying to be over-the-top, the screenplay was good. John Travolta was funny for the most part... But did they really have to put in the Royale with cheese? My gosh. Just a gripe for me lol. "From Paris With Love" is entertaining as a whole package but the audience leaves with no substance whatsoever. Its noisy and the action so was sloppily put together that, in the end, never stimulates our action-hunger needs.

This movie is a ripoff of one of my all time favorites Training Day. The director tries so hard to make John Travolta look awesome that his partner isn't even important, but he does succeed in making a guy named Wax pretty cool, even if Travoltas acting as a badass is getting pretty old. The plot was so forgettable with all the fiancee crap and drug lords (like I said, ripoff of Training Day). I will give it credit for intense action scenes and the cinematography and giving a pretty cool twist ending that makes the last 30 minutes pretty damn cool. A okay movie, could've been a lot better.
