      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A too-rare opportunity for Joe Pantoliano to shine in a leading role, From the Vine transcends its formulaic story with infectious warmth.

Peter W From the Vine is quite basic and generally pleasing. It is a film that carries a basic plot about a man rediscovering himself and desiring to make a significant change in lifestyle by revisiting elements from his past.  This is a light-hearted story with small touches of feel-good humour and romance along the way. It was welcoming to see actor Joe Pantoliano take the lead in this film and story, even if elements from his character will not always be agreeable to the audience. Seeking a light-hearted film? This is undoubtedly a film that will deliver a touching smile onto many movie lovers' faces, and I suggest you drink a glass of red while watching. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Good clean fun. wonderful Italian scenery. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member An uncomplicated, unpretentious romp in Italy. But it has that all important ‘feel good' about it, so a thumbs up. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A cute and quirky movie - particularly lovely if you've visited rural Italy and those typical rambling vineyards! A few odd glitches in the generally smooth flow of storytelling, but most of the time kept my interest and I enjoyed it. Some characters were not well-rounded or fully believable at times, while others were just rather unlikeable (when I am pretty sure we were supposed to like them!) but really that is just picking out the holes. It IS far-fetched, but it is also a fun and heart-warming romantic comedy. I saw it at the cinema and will watch it again when it comes to a streaming platform. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Kristen M Once again, it's about ENTERTAINMENT, people. This movie was completely feel-good. Funny all the way through, with no embarrassing sex scenes or violence. For those of you who love that sort of thing, definitely skip this movie. But this was definitely a bar-above the typical feel-good/nothing going on here movie. Funny all the way through -- be sure to pay attention to the inanimate objects that talk to Marco throughout -- and you will certainly enjoy the great characters (Enzo!) and a loving family. Views of the italian countryside are worth watching all by themselves! Highly recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/20/21 Full Review Audience Member I needed a feel good movie & this was it. It’s corny & somewhat predictable, but you can’t beat the beautiful Italian countryside, winemaking, & romance all wrapped up in a solid story. Enjoy! Cath Clarke Guardian It's Eat Pray Love for wealthy male boomers: embarrassingly sincere and iffily patronising to its Italian characters. Rated: 1/5 Sep 7, 2021 Full Review David Stratton The Australian Sean Cistera's film is, in its modest way, attractive enough. It doesn't aim very high, but its celebration of old traditions in a world where environmental concerns are being set aside in the name of progress is certainly welcome. Rated: 3/5 Jun 18, 2021 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald For a short time, the scenic delights of the place keep you interested but after you have settled in, it's up to Pantoliano to prove he has the charm to persuade you to overlook the story's improbabilities and engage with him and it's a hard sell. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 16, 2021 Full Review Victoria Luxford City AM While it brushes past weightier issues like environmental preservation and the future of rural communities, From The Vine is first and foremost a cinematic holiday. Rated: 3/5 Mar 3, 2022 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground Not a single character seems to have a thought they don't overtly state, every plot development is telegraphed as far ahead as the movie can manage, and stressing the apparent idyll by shoehorning in yet another scenery shot happens again and again. Jul 9, 2021 Full Review Peter Gray This is Film Is a welcome reminder of Joe Pantoliano's presence on screen, with this beautifully shot travelogue of a movie affording him a rare leading man turn.
