Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers), a valiant rider for the Pony Express, rejects an offer from scheming politician Lassiter Calhoun (Edward Keane) to become a spy for the Confederacy. Instead, Lassiter recruits Brett Langhorne (Donald Dillaway), a Southern journalist living in California, to join him in his cause. As the Lincoln-loyal Rogers struggles to thwart a series of Confederate schemes, he finds himself falling for Langhorne's beautiful sister, Southern belle Ann (Mary Hart).
