Alby (Matt McGrath) doesn't want to grow up. He'd rather spend all his time playing with action figures and eating sugary cereal than being a mature husband and father. When his wife kicks him out of the house, Alby goes to live with his mother and reconnects with his old friend Elias (Judah Friedlander). Together, they embark on a road trip to their favorite childhood amusement park -- and the tragic people they meet along the way make Alby think twice about his life choices.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Just as its protagonist is stuck between childhood and adulthood, Full Grown Men waivers uncomfortably between comedy and drama, lacking the discipline to commit to either one.

Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle Full Grown Men is an artistically integrated film that introduces a refreshing new talent to the independent scene, one who combines the visual palette of filmmaker Harmony Korine with an all-important sense of narrative. Rated: 3/4 Jul 25, 2008 Full Review Nick Schager Slant Magazine Hasn't got a joke worth laughing over. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 27, 2008 Full Review Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News Friedlander offers a nicely subtle performance, but the other actors -- including Alan Cumming, Deborah Harry and Amy Sedaris -- appear to have turned up as a favor to the director. Don't feel obliged to follow their lead. Rated: 2/5 Jun 27, 2008 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter This very grown-up comedy about men who find it hard to put away their toys is enhanced by a soulfully comic performance from the still underrated Matt McGrath. May 12, 2020 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens Witty, wise and wacky!! Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Don Willmott Filmcritic.com Full Grown Men might work better if the audience was given a reason to feel even a small sliver of sympathy for Alby Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 27, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Idiotic road trip movie. I almost wanted to gouge my eyes out! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Complete rubbish from start to finish Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member It tries too hard to be a cool indie movie, and it turns out to be unlikable and bland. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member (from The Watermark, 04/05/07) Not a gay film per se, but certainly one of local interest since it was shot in Florida. The story centers around a family man (Matt McGrath) who is still emotionally clinging to his childhood. Thrown out by his wife for his immaturity, he looks up a childhood friend (30 Rock's Judah Friedlander) and they embark on a road trip together where they encounter a parade of quirky characters played by the likes of (openly gay) Alan Cumming, Deborah Harry, and Amy Sedaris. You can probably see what's coming -- the journey kick-starts the slow process of growing up -- and the film is mostly entertaining along the way. While some of the comedy is a little contrived, the film is still thematically consistent in presenting us with characters who somehow can't let go of the past. Floridians may find the patchworking of familiar locales a little disconcerting, but Orlandoans will definitely enjoy the theme-park jabs. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Worth watching at least once Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This picture has alot to offer, I was able to see it before DVD release and its great, great story, great actors and ton's of fun.
