Richard Brody The New Yorker With a graceful round of self-deceptions and mistaken identities, exquisite rationalizations and fortuitous accidents, Rohmer pierces the glossy veneer of the social scene and the dignified realm of art to reveal the sexual fury that they embody. Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine There's irony but no cruelty here; Rohmer is not making Louise the butt of the joke or saying "serve her right." It's simply in the nature of stories illustrating a proverb that someone is bound to suffer from the principle at stake. Apr 14, 2015 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out It's as elegant and incisive a comedy of manners as ever from Rohmer. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Sean Axmaker Seanax.com This is the most ironic and, in many ways, judgmental of [Eric] ohmer's films. Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Joe Bendel Epoch Times Moon is arguably one of the easiest Rohmer films for viewers to identify with. Let's be honest, just about everyone has been in an unequal relationship. Rated: 3.5/5 May 20, 2016 Full Review Ray Pride Newcity Rohmer's wordplay is scalpel-precise, but the movement of his characters, the blocking of figures in dances of desire, figurative and literal, is also supremely graceful even as relationships explode with casual centripetal force. Petros T I'm a little apprehensive about the moral of the story, if there is one, nevertheless it's a really captivating character piece. The internal conflicts and in general the emotional world of the heroine is conveyed skillfully via the dialogues, actions and character interactions, and even seemingly simple, innocuous moments (e.g. people dancing at the first party) subtly show a lot just by the way they're put together and shot. The finale is touching without being melodramatic - or predictable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Audience Member One of Rohmer's best and the only film made on Paris 80's ‘ modern young people' Still very actual and well written , exposing young adults confusion between frivolity and security . Major influence of Pascal Ogier who put her youth and energy in this project before falling asleep forever shortly after the movie's triumph at Venice Mostra. Breakthrough role for Fabrice Luchini Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Good example of how domestic squabbles can make for interesting film. And also tests the sexual revolution ethic and see how far it can go Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Louise (Pascale Ogier) lives in the Paris suburbs with her boyfriend Remi (Tcheky Karyo). She says their relationship is good, but it's become increasingly strained by their having different wants and lifestyles. Louise has been renting out the apartment she lived in in downtown Paris, but when the latest tenant leaves, she decides to secretly take it back for herself so that she has a place to be alone. I like Rohmer ... really ... quite a lot, but occasionally he creates characters that grate on me with their ... "Frenchness" for want of a better term. That, plus my lack of affection for Ogier as an actress, renders this one a little underwhelming for me. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member It's sad to know we cannot have more great performances from Pascale Ogier. How can you not love his charm? It will be too cruel to turn her away. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Is there such thing as a bad Eric Rohmer movie? I've yet to find one and I doubt I ever will Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
