Justin Lowe The Hollywood Reporter An action-adventure yarn wrapped around a monster-movie core, Ragnarok elevates familiar B-movie material with well-matched cultural specificity and realistic family dynamics. Aug 18, 2014 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com "Ragnarok" is the rare Spielberg clone that feels like it was made by people that not only know what they like about Spielberg's films, but are capable of evoking them. Rated: 3/4 Aug 15, 2014 Full Review Rob Humanick Slant Magazine In the end, any and all potential B-movie fun is extinguished by Ragnarok's depressingly listless anonymity. Rated: 1/4 Aug 12, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Successfully delivers a family-friendly adventure akin to Amblin outings from the '80s, while also injecting some fresh perspectives by delivering a blend of H.P. Lovecraft and Viking mythology. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Joe Bendel Epoch Times Sandemose certainly proves that fjords are strikingly cinematic, but he never fully capitalizes on the Ragnarok mythos or the Oseberg backstory. Rated: 2.5/5 May 24, 2016 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers Bring it on, Norway. "Ragnark" is a fantasy adventure that's really impressive. Although it can scare younger children, most of the family will be just fine with this hybrid of a B-movie creature feature and the Nicholas Cage flick, "National Treasure." David W Dustin Putman's calling this a Norwegian Jurassic Park is spot on, though in this case the dinosaurs are replaced by a Norwegian Godzilla. Unfortunately, despite a few tense moments, there's no rampaging climax you would expect from such a film. And for that, I wouldn't watch it again. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent cheesy monster movie. Pop some popcorn and enjoy the ride. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Joel C This is a family film type creature horror I guess. Shot in a lovely location while the characters look for Viking treasure. From there they find something a bit more ancient, and alive. The shots look good and the VFX look good considering I wasn't expecting to see a creature. It's a film the kids can watch and still be introduced to the horror genre. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/21 Full Review Liam D A decent monster flick This adventure is a pretty good movie Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/11/21 Full Review Audience Member The series started off well but I lost interest midway. The characters were never developed at all. Magne had powers but never used them past throwing a hammer 1.5 km and arm wrestling. His mother... well I never figured out her purpose at all as well has his brother who was obviously much older than Magne. Things happened which were not logical like Magne never confronting any of his enemies. All he did was sit around with a strange look on his face as things happened. And the finale was less that interesting. The writers need to revisit what they are trying to do and put more action in the series, if there happens to be a season 2, which, at this point, I sincerely doubt. It started good and went totally flat. I doubt I would waste time on another season, but I MIGHT just to see if they developed the characters more. At this point, 1.5 stars, interesting at first but going totally flat and uninteresting from the middle on. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member While it was somewhat predictable, I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I went in expecting a typical low budget monster movie, but the CGI was actually pretty good and locations were beautiful. I do believe there was a missed opportunity to tie in more Viking lore, but I'd definitely recommend watching this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
