Critics Consensus

Drawing blood and yucks from its literal tourist trap setting, Get Away is uneven as comedy and horror but makes for a highly unique blending of the two genres.

Kevin Maher The Times (UK) ... The movie degenerates into a tedious slow-motion gore-fest that’s as empty as it is illogical. Rated: 2/5 Jan 27, 2025 Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine Funny and shocking, Get Away is not always a successful holiday-gone-wrong, but its bloody bonkers final act makes it worth the trip. Rated: 3/5 Jan 16, 2025 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal Offhandedly funny, conscientiously forbidding and ultimately a surprise. Jan 10, 2025 Full Review Samantha McLaren MovieJawn A loving send-up of folk horror, Get Away leans heavily into the cringe comedy resulting from the culture clash and British family dynamics, but these awkward laughs mask a blood-stained grin. Aug 1, 2025 Full Review John Daniel Tangalin The Cinema Spot Haars’s film paces briskly, so much so that the only apparent narrative issue is the lack of development in the local characters. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider Get Away is a funny and increasingly bloody (and twisty) trip as it skewers vacation horror stories and horror films themselves with a smart, unapologetically dark script from writer-star Nick Frost. AndyB Amazingly hilarious and a massive twist. My friend doesn’t like horror or gore at all and loved it too Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Holly LOVED!!!! Did not expect what played out and it was done so well! Nick Frost is the man Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Jose A I’m very impressed with this movie. I swear, these films under the IFC Films or Shudder flagship have turned into a success. I gotta say, the future looks bright for the horror genre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Mov3man Another Shudder masterpiece! The Blood and Gore of In a Violent Nature and the comedy of It’s a Wonderful Knife combined! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Metalliphil Fantastic character and a ton of fun Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Diana F Go into this movie knowing nothing about it (which is exactly what I did) and you will be entertained. I did not see the twist coming, which is what made this movie a 4 star for me! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
