Two years after being released from Syrian jail, Hamid (break out star Adam Bessa) is making ends meet as a construction worker in the French city of Strasbourg, where, haunted by the memory of his imprisonment, the young man searches tirelessly for the man who tortured him, determined to get his revenge--but what's the real price of vengeance for the person seeking it? Inspired by true events, Jonathan Millet's deeply researched thriller excavates the too-little-examined moral dilemmas and political negligence that migrants must confront amid the struggle to rebuild their lives and take control of their destinies at the margins of contemporary French society, inviting audiences to better empathize with their country's newest residents, and better understand their place in the world--and our own.

Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com An intimate study of trauma that plays with the gripping suspense of a globetrotting spy thriller. Rated: 3.5/4 May 30, 2025 Full Review Zachary Barnes Wall Street Journal Mr. Bessa’s performance is a pained and bitter thing, his character committed to some form of justice even if the attempt to get it keeps him submerged in a traumatic past... May 29, 2025 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times Jonathan Millet’s “Ghost Trail” takes a mostly conventional approach to this [crime thriller] blueprint, in which a protagonist loses his head (and his humanity), but it offers a novel context: the Syrian refugee crisis. May 29, 2025 Full Review Steve Erickson Arts Fuse The fact that so much of its dialogue is relegated to voice-over, heard over images of Hamid walking or riding on buses, enhances the powerful impact made by his alienation from himself and others. Jul 9, 2025 Full Review Nicholas Bell Fish Jelly Films (YouTube) Adam Bessa is a quietly restrained Syrian refugee seeking vengeance in this potent but solemn thriller rooted in real-life trauma. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 2, 2025 Full Review Charles Johnston Spectrum Culture A masterfully restrained film with swirling storms always brewing underneath its surface. Richard M A must see - good date movie!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Carl V I was mildly familiar with Syrian civil war basics. But the movie was so engaging & effective that I went right home and did a deep dive on the history of the Syrian Civil War-- this additional research was very depressing unfortunately! I’m glad that in the end of the movie the rule of international law won out over extra-judicial justice! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Franck L Pure sensorial cat-and-mouse thriller. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review Mathilde P A real European thriller, raw, deeply human. Not the kind of film where you'll see action or haunting flashbacks — words and feelings over images. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
