Critics Consensus

Ghostbusters does an impressive job of standing on its own as a freewheeling, marvelously cast supernatural comedy -- even if it can't help but pale somewhat in comparison with the classic original.

Ghostbusters is fun, it's silly, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Go to Full Review

Frankly, if you're going to make a new Ghostbusters with a female foursome as the leads and you're facing a backlash from clanging dungeons of the woman-hating internet, it seems like it would make for an epic opportunity to troll them. Go to Full Review

It brings the modern changes and updates that come with making this kind of movie in 2016 and not 1984, which equates to a high level of flashy CGI and blockbuster-level action compared to the saucy and subtle original. Go to Full Review

Ghostbusters offered a fresh and fun spin on the classic testosterone-fueled comedy and featured Chris Hemsworth as a dim-witted himbo, delightful cameos by cast members from the original movie, and a wonderful breakout performance by Kate McKinnon. Go to Full Review

Ralf_Wolf 09/24/2021 the jokes fell flat ... I expected sooo much more from pretty much everyone in this movie unfortunately the writing/directing let us all down and this will be a horrible mark on everyone involved See more TI H @MeInCharacter 4d I didn't care for this movie the first time around. My disregard had nothing to do with an all-female cast. The music was wrong, for one, lacking the light-hearted tone of Elmer Bernstein's original score. The hand-clapping bit that McCarthy & McKinnon performed in the lab was too obviously meant to become a thing. The fact that these new ghostbusters should have been the first victims of Venkman's franchising scheme. The black woman wasn't allowed to be a scientist. But although the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Ghostbusters films are not good sequels, I find that Answer The Call does make me laugh quite a bit (I really love the cliche-flip of the secretary, played by Hemsworth). I love Kate McKinnon in everything she does--and this movie was the first time I'd ever seen her! Same with Wiig, a new face to me, but a funny person. McCarthy, I already knew from the Nines. Ghostbusters Answer the Call was a decent cast for modern times. Watch it as a stand-alone movie for the best results. See more Robert D Nov 27 A dreadful remake that, while having some talented people working on it, doesn't do anything funny with. It is just as weak and unfunny as the 2015 Vacation reboot. Leslie Jones was very annoying in this movie also and tried to hard to be funny. Paul Feig should just stick to making movies like Spy because he is not fit to make movies this. I think it is so sweet and quirky and hysterical See more A. ERUNDIL M Nov 8 Una de las peores películas de la historia del cine.
