Paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) and physicist Erin Gilbert are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Critics Consensus

Ghostbusters does an impressive job of standing on its own as a freewheeling, marvelously cast supernatural comedy -- even if it can't help but pale somewhat in comparison with the classic original.

Catherine Scott Bitch Media Ghostbusters is fun, it's silly, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC News (Australia) The new Ghostbusters film is a smart, spectacular addition to the series. Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Soraya Nadia McDonald Andscape Frankly, if you're going to make a new Ghostbusters with a female foursome as the leads and you're facing a backlash from clanging dungeons of the woman-hating internet, it seems like it would make for an epic opportunity to troll them. Sep 26, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson It brings the modern changes and updates that come with making this kind of movie in 2016 and not 1984, which equates to a high level of flashy CGI and blockbuster-level action compared to the saucy and subtle original. Carney Washington Blade Ghostbusters offered a fresh and fun spin on the classic testosterone-fueled comedy and featured Chris Hemsworth as a dim-witted himbo, delightful cameos by cast members from the original movie, and a wonderful breakout performance by Kate McKinnon. Ralf_Wolf the jokes fell flat ... I expected sooo much more from pretty much everyone in this movie unfortunately the writing/directing let us all down and this will be a horrible mark on everyone involved Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/24/21 Full Review Murky S I really like the style of the special effects, better than in the new films. Everything else is terrible, the roles are so poorly written and acted. The story is okay, but mostly lazy writing. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/25 Full Review Hughe J Ghostbusters (2016) was directed by Paul Feig and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and for some reason Chris Hemsworth. This is a rehash of the original Ghostbusters (1984) but this time stars women instead of men. A quick recap is that the smart one is kicked out of her college position and then joins with the "funny" ones to capture ghosts. They add a loud woman onto the team who's not a scientist and then hire an attractive but dumb male as their secretary. They chase around a few ghosts, make fun of men, and girl boss their way through the movie. So for me the movie wasn't funny or entertaining. The SFX were fine but the characters were just dull and all came across the same; completely opposite from the original movie where the characters had very distinct personalities. Unfortunately this was not a good movie and I cannot recommend it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Joey S One of the worst movies ever made. Toilet humor trash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/26/25 Full Review JACOB B. ghostbusters 2016 is a good movie but not for the fans of the original Ghostbusters but the movie has a lot of like funny stuff in it and has good music but the movie does have some problems that fans of the original Ghostbusters pointed out but they did bring back the main cast but it still didn't have a lot of that charm for the Ghostbusters fans to get into and fans of the original Ghostbusters did not like the female leads in the 2016 Ghostbusters but they still gave the movie like a good good jokes and a lot of funny humor that just made credits love the 2016 Ghostbusters but not the fans : ghostbusters 2016 is not a bad or good movie for the fans of the original Ghostbusters but it is a OK movie for fans who don't like Ghostbusters but the movie still has like funny moments has great act in and has a good story that just gets you into it because I love the girl that plays Holtzman and Leslie Jones was so funny as Patty because her character was so funny and just so good because I love the part of when she slap Melissa McCarthy and she says the power of pain compels you which reminds me of the line from the exorcist the power of cries compels you and Chris Hemsworth character was something to process Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Jasen I This movie is such a nice and funny version of the 1984 ghostbusters, you have Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and even Melissa McCarthy! We also have the voice actor of Lucy Wilde from Despicable me 2 and even Chris Hemsworth. This movie was so funny and so good even my parents and sister loves it! If you're in to more modernized movies from older ones or just wanna watch something random, this movie is my go to! Definitely a must see.
