GIANT is the true story of Prince Naseem "Naz" Hamed's humble beginnings on the tough working class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Brendan Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership along with Naz's unorthodox style, cocky persona and sheer dominance in the ring propelled them to the top of boxing's elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of 80's and 90's Britain.

Despite good performances from El-Masry and Brosnan, this fails to pack the heavyweight knockout punch it sorely needs. Judge’s decision: a narrow loss, on points.  Go to Full Review

The core (largely true) story is just about strong enough to keep the film on its feet through all 12 rounds. A narrow victory on points. Go to Full Review

For a film about a fighter who was famous for his footwork, this is disappointingly plodding stuff. Go to Full Review

Giant is funny, heartfelt and tremendously acted. In our opinion, it’s a knock-out. Go to Full Review

Andrew G @AndrewGreeny Jan 20 I was lucky enough to visit the gym quite regularly around those magical years, and this excellent film stirred so many emotions and old memories. I thought Brendan’s heart and soul, and his inspirational teachings and preachings, were faithfully portrayed, and the pride & loyalty of the two boys and most of all of Alma, was beautiful to see realised on the big screen. I’m so pleased that a somewhat balanced view of the split was achieved during that imagined final conversation between the two leading characters. Naz was truly a very special athlete and a unique personality, who from what I saw adored Brendan and all his friends in that amazing old gym! The reality was sadly such a familiar tale when money, glory and fame get involved, but that shouldn’t diminish the giant achievements of this special pair - and with this film they are deservedly immortalised. I LOVED it! 5/5 See more Azhar H @azhar460 Jan 19 I thought is was brilliant movie. Every acted brilliantly. 10 out of 10 for me. The actor copied prince style so well. Excellent. No sure if film was bit biased towards naz but over all excellent. See more Tom B @Tommytippy Jan 19 Growing up watching Prince Naseem I had to watch this film. It brought back lovely nostalgia. They recreated his ring entrances brilliantly. The story was emotional and I loved the film. I took my 15 year old son and he loved it too. See more dick d @TheVault Jan 18 Very enjoyable. I was around when Hamed was fighting and casually followed it. Didn't know the story with Ingle. Pierce Brosnan was excellent, much better than when he was younger. See more Damien S Jan 18 Good performances by the lead actors but story felt like it got a bit lost See more Graham W Jan 18 Enjoyed this true story about Nas and Brendan RIP. It showed what an amazing fighter Nas was even though his own opinion was much bigger! Brendan just wanted what he thought he was entitled too after training him for so many years. Pierce Brosman played Brendan very well. It’s a shame most was filmed in Leeds not Sheffield where it all happened. See more Read all reviews
