Grace Han Asian Movie Pulse Thematically, Gift of Fire touches upon rhetorical questions surprisingly resonant today. How should we, for example, think of Japanese nationalism today? ... for a historical drama about World War II, this film remains engaging from beginning to end. Audience Member This is based on real people, true story. At the end of the film, photographs of the real people are shown. The director/writer ran across a diary in an archives, and that's how this came about. How many other people in the United States know that Japan had their own version of the Manhattan Project, but with immensely fewer resources? The story is engaging; the historical background is well portrayed. This is Oscar material. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
