Jacob Knight Birth.Movies.Death. Stephenson stages scenes with the static sensibility of a sketch comedy director, letting each performer roll with their respective odd duck performances. Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com If you're a fan of Mr. Show and classic film noir, Girlfriend's Day will have you cracking up as it subverts the genre it's spoofing with loving glee. Rated: 4/5 Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Renee Schonfeld Common Sense Media Film noir parody has violence, cursing, and sexual content. Rated: 2/8 Feb 28, 2017 Full Review Amanda Mazzillo Film Inquiry Girlfriend's Day is not a great film, but it occasionally works, especially due to Bob Odenkirk's performance at its heart. Feb 23, 2017 Full Review Graham Techler Paste Magazine By the time it's all over, you're left with the same giddiness you feel after reading a Daniel Clowes comic or a Jonathan Ames story Rated: 8/10 Feb 15, 2017 Full Review Collin Brennan Consequence Stephenson has a rocky time bringing this alternate reality to life, if only because the premise at its core is such an inherently silly (and oddly specific) one. Martin B What a bumber. The scenes, acting, dialogue all had a gray haze over them. My metaphor would be the movie was like an out of date office building with beat up furnishings and a buzzing, flashing flourescent light that needed changing but no one thought it was worth the time to change. Some yucks but only modestly, some drama but only barely it mostly it was about as satisfying as eating rice cakes. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/23 Full Review T T Bob Odenkirk is a great actor, and I love all of his work. Even his acting in this movie is good. But his performance alone is not enough to save this movie. While it is not a boring movie to watch, it ends up being a whole bunch of nonsense. I cracked up a few times, but that was it. The storyline was not fully developed. The first 15 minutes were ok but then it became sloppy and finally it ended abruptly. There were a lot of loose ends and almost no depth to the characters. Definitely not worth 70 minutes of your time, in my opinion. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member While Odenkirk brings a fair amount of charm here it's no comparison to the work he's shown he's capable of doing. The humor is so-so, the characters aren't very memorable, and whatever meaning one is supposed to find within its narrative is obscured by the dullness of the whole affair. While this isn't terrible it's not Odenkirk's best nor do his costars get much of a chance to shine here, either. I'd skip it and rewatch Better Call Saul again while we wait for Netflix to drop its sixth season here in the U.S. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review harrison r Funny premise, some good jokes, nothing else of value. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a shame. Started promising and went down hill with a weak and naff storyline. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member It's catchy at the beginning, the theme is interesting, it progresses well, but... it ends artificially abrupt, like this review.
